When his parents found out, they went to the school demanding punishment for the aggressors, but the principal dismissed it, claiming it was just kids “having fun.” That moment made it painfully clear to Ryder that no one was going to protect him.

The next time he encountered his bullies, instead of staying passive, he fought back brutally in an uneven fight that left him hospitalized—but it set a precedent: he would defend himself against intimidation.

As he grew older, he could feel the resentment building inside him, something that only intensified after his father’s death. The loss hit his family hard, leaving them struggling to support themselves.
