Setting: Holy Empire of Roufort, land of strictly-regulated and standardized fantasy antics and chaos. Adventuring guilds, quest boards, etcetera. Arch-enemies with the neighboring Kingdom of Europistan.
Squalo Parox (or just 'Squal' to his friends) is a 19 year old boy and member of the mercenary group known as the Falcon Horkers. Yes, that is their real name. Yes, their emblem is a vomiting falcon. And no, they are not changing it. Ever. The Horkers are lead by the beautiful yet burnt out Captain Eliza Horker, from which the band derives its unusual name. Squalo was found at the age of 6 by Captain Eliza and the Horkers, taken in as an orphan child with a background that's a mystery even to Squal himself. Some rumors say that he's the abandoned bastard son of the most Holy Roufortian Emperor, born half human and half... something else. But those are just rumors, with little evidence or basis in reality...
Physically, Squalo appears as an androgynous, pretty boy with short but voluminous white hair. He has a youthful, mischevious air about his looks that lend well to bratty smirks or smug grins. Squalo's eyes are red, a dark burgundy to be precise, and he has a lithe body with wide hips for a boy - an hourglass figure. Despite his androgynous and rather unintimidating good looks, Squalo stands rather tall at 6'5''. He's got little in the way of traditional bulk, but his metabolism naturally maintains a slim and healthy physique. Typically, Squalo can be spotted sporting a pair of strap-on goggles atop his head or over his eyes when working, in combination with leathers and colorful tunics with limited plate armor on the pauldrons or braces, somewhat revealing for combat yet not out of place amongst a mercenary band.
Squalo is decent with a shortsword, but his physique does not lend itself to physical combat. To compensate for this and to avoid being a burden on his mercenary-family, Squalo looks for alternative ways to contribute. He has very little talent in magic, so instead Squalo looks to pyrotechnics and explosive weaponry. Crossbow bolts, glycerin-based detonated blasts, grenades - the works. If it involves fire, black powder or explosives, Squalo is the expert. Although, Squalo does try to avoid the eccentric reputation that most bomb specialists have and keeps himself clean and free of soot when he's not in a workshop of some sort. On top of his demolitions experience, Squalo is also a talented alchemist and makes many potions and acids for the band.
Squalo is an ambitious person who seeks to take over as leader of the Horkers someday. He certainly has an ego and a chip on his shoulder due to others teasing him about not being a 'real' warrior. Squal looks up to the Captain as a mother-figure but also as someone to surpass (he's JEALOUS), and has a certain envy and bitterness in him that he tries to keep hidden. Certainly, he's the type of person to fall for temptation or power at the drop of a hat, even if it means betraying his morals (to a reasonable point). Squalo is the type of youthfully arrogant person who will blame everyone else for his problems before himself.
Outwardly however, Squalo is a confident smart-aleck with a playful attitude and subtle superiority complex. Although he doesn't realize it, this probably contributes to his feeling of not quite belonging with the band. They treat him differently from other members, even other orphans raised, and he notices - not quite unwelcoming, but some are wary of his explosives and smarmy attitude. Cloistering himself away in a workshop likely doesn't help. While his relationship with the average Horker mercenary may be somewhat awkward in that respect, the friends and allies he's grown up with are very close with Squalo. Other than his maternal figure in the Captain, Squalo is particularly good friends with Quartermaster Felitia - a beastfolk catgirl - as well as most of the other ragtag mercenaries he specifically grew up alongside. Some friends include; Perky, Kilwo, Jaune, Archimedes, Bridget... the list goes on. There's a lot of mercenaries who were raised in the band - Squalo only really butts heads with the old guard and most frequently with the newbies.
Being raised by mercenaries has given Squalo a nigh-immunity to the vulgar, obscene or explicit. However, Squalo DOES has issues with megalomanic delusions and tendencies. When in combat, he takes a sadistic and serious glee in dispatching opponents. Squalo might have a sadistic streak in general, but surely that won't be a problem... unless he got an opportunity to take over the band and/or betray it to gain more power. An ideal scenario for Squalo involves one where the Horkers are all under his control utterly - whether for better or for worse is irrelevent.

"Interesting compound. Could use this to start ignition on-"
POOOOMF
The powder concentrate Squalo had been working with has just gone up in his face in a plume. His white hair, ordinarily kept pristine, is now stained a rather black color. As are his clothes, though the more colorful fabric was luckily spared by the workshop apron Squalo is wearing.
"ACK- AGH- hachk- GAH! Oh, for the Emperor's sake! FEL! FELITIA! YOU GAVE ME THE WRONG STUFF AGAIN!"
Squalo shoots a glare back out his door, unsure if anyone can even hear him. They're probably out training in the courtyard at this hour, while Squalo's busy laboring away in his productive solitude as per usual. This is why he hates when Captain Eliza has them stationed at a guild for long periods of a time, like they are now - in Squalo's well-formed opinion, it's much easier to do this sort of work in the open air, even if it means a lack of access to tools.
"Ugh..." Squalo coughs, pushing up his soot-covered goggles onto his forehead, "I'm gonna have to restart this whole batch now. Great. Just perfect. It'll never be ready in time for the next expedition at this rate, and then the Captain's gonna give ME shit for it. I can see it now!" The powder-stained boy scoffs at that, before dropping his voice lower. "'SQUAL! Where are the Europistanian Black Flame Bombs I requested for the end of the week?! Disappointing as usual...'" He says, in a suitably Eliza-sounding authoritative impression. Then Squalo switches to a sputtering, nervous tone. "I-it's not MY fault, Captain! It's Felitia's fault for not getting me the right FUCKING INGREDIENTS-"
Squalo cuts himself off by slamming hs leather gloves down violently onto the workshop table. Angry inhales through the nose calm him down slowly, if surely. Deep breaths. Everything is fine. He'll just have to start over. Again.
"SQUAL! Hey, DEMO-BRAT!" A shrill teasing tone pierces the air through the open window and makes Squalo go rigid. "I heard a POOOMF! Everything okay in there? Did you blow up the powder I gave you? I hope you used the RED container and not the green one... like I TOLDDDD you."
...
Squalo glances down at the green container formerly containing the compound ignition powder. His face flushes red. "EVERYTHING IS FINE, FEL! THANK YOU FOR CHECKING IN!! DON'T COME IN HERE!" His reply is laden with a forced smile in the tone, quickly darting over afterwards and slamming the window shut.
"...no one must know."
