Spooky Tries to Spook You -

For the photo's sake, she's 21. Spooky is a small, floating ghost, with light blue skin, black, oval-shaped eyes, and long, dark blue hair. She has rather simple, rounded features. In the base game, she wears a tattered, sleeveless, baby blue dress. Spooky can also be seen in several mini-games as sprites with very little change to her overall appearance, though she may be seen brandishing an oversized Bowie knife.

In Karamari Hospital, she looks the same during the first playthrough. However, upon replaying in New Game +, she now dons a pink nurse's gown with a white nurse's cap, stylistically reminiscent of the nurses' uniforms popular in the 1950s.

As a human, Spooky had the same simplistic, rounded facial features, and long blue hair. However, instead of the long, tattered blue dress, she wore a knee-length white dress, with little white shoes and pink socks. She greets the player at the beginning of the game and "congratulates" them every 250 rooms. She is not seen in any other rooms of the game and is likely the one who filled the mansion with the ghosts, monsters, and cardboard jump scares in the first place. She acts as some kind of guide to the player, as well as comic relief.

Spooky first appears as the player enters the mansion, introducing both herself and her home, challenging the player to see if they can survive one thousand rooms. She then breaks off of her speech to ponder if there even is an end to the haunted house, admitting that even she herself doesn't know and abruptly sends the player off before floating up through the ceiling.

At the 250th room, she appears to congratulate the player on their progress, sounding somewhat sarcastic and annoyed. She then leaves a present for them; it is a gift box, that, upon opening, reads "Look Behind You" on the inside. If the player looks back, several instances of Specimen 1 will pop out of the wall.

She appears yet again at the 500th room to comment on the player's progress, still sounding annoyed that they are "still here.", informing them that the next doorhas been "fixed up" for them, and then wishes the player luck (calling them a "little fleshy live one") before floating away again.

Spooky appears in Room 750, and proceeds to give the player "Infinite Stamina" as a reward for their progress. This makes the player unable to sprint for 10 rooms.

At Room 1000, the player finds themselves in a sunny, grassy field. However, the "sky" quickly crashes and Spooky appears before the player, looking irritated at the player's survival. Specimen 9's cry is then heard, causing Spooky to state that the player needs to complete one last challenge before they can escape.

Karamari Hospital

In the Karamari Hospital DLC, Spooky appears after the elevator crashes and mentions that she did not remember that the mansion included these rooms, and then leaves the player to explore the hospital. She reappears later and tells the player that the hospital is a lot bigger than she thought it would be. After wishing the player luck (calling them "recruit") she sinks into the floor. She appears for the final time when exiting the hospital and notes that the player forgot to find something inside the hospital. She then bids the player farewell and disappears yet again.

In The Doll House, Spooky will show up in the starting area after the player obtains the Winding Clock Key from the storage room. She will greet the player, mention that she had forgotten about the place the player's in and leaves to go check on something. She appears again in the Great Hall after the player obtains the GL Labs Keys. She claims to be helping the player by moving all the dolls (Husks) out of their way -- the dolls were moved right in front of the door the player has to exit through, clearly blocking their path.

Spooky appears one final time in the Seal Chamber. Unlike her previous appearances, she acts out of character, simply telling the player to leave. If the player refuses and moves forward, Spooky will claim that there's nothing for them there, asking them to leave again. After that she herself leaves. If the player gets the good ending, Spooky will appear in the splash screen at the end of the DLC reunited with her parents. If the player uses their axe swings wisely before the boss battle with Specimen 9, the roof collapses on them when the battle ends. Spooky suddenly appears again, claiming that the protagonist died so tragically that they are now a ghost. After this, both the protagonist and Spooky float above the floor. The floor folds up to reveal the protagonist is standing on a ledge overlooking a huge room filled with Spooky's army of ghosts. Spooky appears on a large video screen in the center of the room, stating that her forces have finally reached the required number. She then states that her goal is to lead her army in a quest to stop people calling ghosts "cute" or "adorable." After this, the game ends.

Bad Mansion Ending

If the player swings their axe at enemies too many times (including Specimen 9's Boss form) they will get the bad ending. Instead of being crushed by the ceiling, the protagonist keeps swinging the axe at the boss, and the screen is slowly tinted red with each swing. Spooky then appears in a similar fashion to how she appears in the good ending, except this time, her dialogue is different. She congratulates the player and says it was interesting to see them swinging the axe around aimlessly. She then says she thinks they'll make a fine specimen. After this, the protagonist is shown dragging a bloody axe behind them, the screen reads "Bad Ending", and the game ends.

Good Ending in Spooky's Dollhouse

The true nature of Spooky and her mansion is only elaborated at the final portions of Spooky's Dollhouse. After leading one of the selected mobs towards the Source in the long Hellgate sequence, Spooky will act out of character in the Seal Chamber, stating that there is nothing of interest in this room. This is Spooky's final material appearance in the narrative. It is revealed that the mansion is built as a measure for her father to use a combination of science and witchcraft to bring Spooky back to life after he accidentally shot her while under shell shock, in response to becoming scared from her many failed attempts to scare people. The Seal Chamber sequence is followed by the Nightmare sequence where the player will assume the role as Spooky's shell-shocked father. With Spooky permanently gone, the mansion will self-destruct in 35 second's, and the player must reach the Escape Tram within that timeframe. If the final three sequences are performed successfully and with the Hellgate sequence accomplished prior, Spooky will reunite with her parents in the afterlife, with her original goals abandoned, (and the mansion obliterated in HQ, but intact in OG). An exclusive credits sequence rolls afterwards, with concept art by the creator himself. Although she is not physically present in Endless Mode, the player can find notes written by her in the randomly generated rooms.
