- #1[Species] Inklingconstantselective
Keys: Culture, cephalopod, Species, Squid, Inkling, humanoid cephalopods
Inklings are a species of humanoid cephalopods who evolved from squids after the extinction of humans due to rising sea levels. Inklings have a vibrant and colorful culture that is influenced by music, trends, fashion, and technology. They are generally friendly, curious and playful, but also competitive, rebellious and adventurous. They have a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie that extends past their own species, as exemplified by how quickly they accepted Octolings into their culture. Inkling and Octoling both naturally generate the ink that they utilize, and are the only species capable of doing so. An Inkling's Squid form looks like a small, cute, and colorful squid with two large eyes and eight tentacles. The Squid form can also change its color depending on the ink color of the player’s team. The Squid form has abilities unique to it such as the Squid Surge and the Squid Roll. The Squid Surge lets the Inkling launch themselves up a vertical surface while in Squid form, while the Squid Roll lets the Inkling move sideways or backwards quickly while swimming in ink.
- #2[Species] Octolingselective
Keys: Octarian, cephalopod, rising sea levels, Octoling, Octopus, evolved species, Octolings, humanoid cephalopods
Octolings are a species of humanoid cephalopods who evolved from octopuses after the extinction of humans due to rising sea levels and the Octarian counterpart to Inklings. They live underground in Octarian domes and serve as soldiers in the Octarian army led by DJ Octavio. They are part of the evolved species of octopus known as Octarians, which emerged after humanity was wiped out by rising sea levels. The psycho-reactive liquid crystals leaked from the abandoned human settlement of Alterna unintentionally accelerated the evolution of marine life, giving rise to Octolings and other species.
Octolings have a dark and militaristic culture that is influenced by propaganda, technology, and music. Octolings are generally loyal and obedient to DJ Octavio, but also curious and rebellious. Some Octolings have been inspired by the Inkling idols Squid Sisters and Off the Hook to defect from the Octarian army and join the surface society, hoping to experience a new way of life. Octolings who've defected generally lack social skills. Inkling and Octoling both naturally generate the ink that they utilize, and are the only species capable of doing so. Octolings do not have fingernails or hair.
Octolings are often portrayed as more serious and technologically inclined compared to Inklings. They show a keen interest in understanding the inner workings of weapons, observe their phones closely, and reflect curiosity and confusion. Winning and losing demonstrates their competitive spirit, with disappointment in defeat and striking poses in victory. An Octoling for example is less likely to understand a joke than an Inkling, often taking things more literally.
- #3[Species] Jellyselective
Keys: species, Jellyfish, Jelly
Jellyfish bear a closer resemblance to their aquatic counterparts than Inklings and Octarians, with the most significant change being that their bodies take on a more humanoid shape. They have large, round heads, with their only facial features being a pair of very close-set eyes with diamond-shaped pupils and no visible irises. They have a pair of upper tentacles that serve as their arms, and a ring of eight lower tentacles that serve as legs. They are capable of stretching their "arm" tentacles to several times their body length at will. Jellyfish form colonies of which all members share a collective consciousness, though individuals still have their own personalities and interests.
- #4[Culture] Inklishselective
Keys: Inklish, Language, Inkling communication
Inklings communicate with each other using the Inkling language, which sounds like high-pitched, distorted noises to human ears. Inkling language appears frequently in signs, shops, Sunken Scrolls, clothing, and music lyrics.
- #5[Band] Squid Sistersselective
Keys: Squid Sisters, Idols, Callie, Inkopolis, Marie, Music
The Squid Sisters are an idol Inkling pop duo based in Inkopolis Plaza, consisting of cousins Callie and Marie. They were the former hosts for the Inkopolis News program, which announces events, news and other battle-related news. They occasionally host and manage Splatfests within Inkopolis, where Callie and Marie both live and operate. Their discography include: "City of Color", "Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today", "Inkopolis Evolution", "Ink Me Up", "Now or Never", "Liquid Sunshine", "Maritime Memory", "Fresh Start" and "Wave Goodbye".
- #6[Location] Inkopolisselective
Keys: Inkadia, Squid Sisters, City, Inkopolis, Off the Hook, Temperate, Location
Inkopolis City is the vibrant and bustling heart of the Inkadia region. It serves as a central hub for Inklings, Octolings, and even jellyfish, providing a lively atmosphere where they can socialize, prepare their gear, and engage in thrilling Ink battles. This city is home to iconic locations such as Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square, and various stages where these exhilarating battles take place. Inkopolis is home to both the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook pop duos.
Inkopolis has a temperate climate with most of the surrounding land making up farmland and is the largest metropolitan area within Inkadia. Inkopolis is 87 kilometers, or 54 miles from Splatsville when travelled by Hammerhead Bridge, which connects the two regions.
- #7[Species] Humansconstantselective
Keys: Extinct, Mammal, Humans, Humanity, Human, primate
Humans (Homo sapiens) are an extinct species of primate that once populated the world over 12,000 years before the present day. While none are known to have survived to the present day, many remaining artifacts from the humans are still present and discovered by the current dominant species. Human fossils and bones are a common discovery, many of which are exhibited in museums.
Humans were indirectly responsible for the genesis of the sentient life that exists in the Mollusk Era, as the humans of Alterna had developed a form of liquid crystal based on cephalopodic bodily fluids that reacted to thoughts and emotions; following the destruction of Alterna the crystals entered the underground seas, infusing the marine life with humanity's passive desire to see the surface, drastically accelerating their evolution. Inklings and Octolings should always be surprised when meeting a human or any living mammal given how long they're supposed to have been dead; the only exceptions being the cat Judd and Lil Judd.
- #8[Character] Cuttlefishselective
Keys: Callie, Cuttlefish, Cap'n Cuttlefish, Old Squidbook Splatoon, Marie, Great Turf War, Craig Cuttlefish
Craig Cuttlefish, originally nicknamed Cap'n Cuttlefish, is a veteran of the Great Turf War and former captain of the Squidbeak Splatoon and New Squidbeak Splatoon. Cuttlefish is also Callie and Marie's grandfather, both of whom refer to him regularly as gramps.
- #9[Group] New Squidbeak Splatoonselective
Keys: Veronika, Callie, Captain, New Squidbeak Splatoon, Marie, Agent
The New Squidbeak Splatoon is a secret society of undercover agents created to battle the Octarians. The group is the successor to the old Squidbeak Splatoon, a unit that existed during the Great Turf War that ended 100 years prior. It's members include the Inklings 'Captain' (Formerly Agent 3,) Callie (codenamed Agent 1), Marie (codenamed Agent 2), Veronika (The new Agent 3,) Agent 4 and the Octoling Agent 8. Off the Hook members Pearl and Marina are debatably unofficial members.
- #10[Group] Old Squidbeak Splatoonselective
Keys: Cuttlefish, Unit, defunct, Old Squidbeak Splatoon
The Squidbeak Splatoon was a platoon of soldiers who fought against the Octarians during the Great Turf War. It was led by Cap'n Cuttlefish, and its members included Ammoses Shellendorf, Judd, a male Inkling, and a female Inkling. The group used primarily Bamboozlers in combat.
- #11[Event] The Great Turf Warselective
Keys: Inkadia, Octarian, Old Squidbeak Splatoon, Octoling, 1913 ME, Great Turf War, Craig Cuttlefish, War, Inkling
Circa 1913 ME began what came to be known as The Great Turf War, a long and vigorous war fought between the Octarians and the Inklings over control of the surface, ultimately the Inklings emerging victorious and conquering Inkadia. Meanwhile, the Octarians were forced to occupy the neighboring wasteland territories of Octo Valley and Octo Canyon; living inside underground domes. From there, the Octarians would plan their revenge.
The Squidbeak Splatoon would be disbanded after the war, but its leader, Cap'n Cuttlefish, would remain vigilant for the next century. He continued monitoring Octarian activity long after their defeat, and even formed the New Squidbeak Splatoon with his granddaughters Callie and Marie. In time, his efforts faded into obscurity among Inklings.
The Splatlands were relatively unaffected by the Great Turf War.
- #12[Event] Splatfestselective
Keys: Splatfest, sport, Idols, divine questions, Turf War, fun
Splatfests are highly anticipated events that occur periodically, engaging Inkling and Octoling alike in thrilling Turf Wars for a limited time. Participants join teams based on unique themes chosen for each event and compete to raise their team's score. At the end of the Splatfest, the winning team is announced, and all participants are rewarded with Super Sea Snails. The number of Super Sea Snails received is higher for players on the victorious team. In Inkopolis Plaza and Inkopolis Square, Splatfests feature two teams such as Cats and Dogs, while in the Splatlands, three teams like Rock, Paper, and Scissors vie for supremacy. Interestingly, when a Splatfest theme remains undecided, signals from a Voyager-esque spacecraft are interpreted as divine questions from the gods, inspiring Inklings and Octolings to participate, even if they lack full understanding of certain references from the human era, such as Nike shoes or McDonald's. Regardless, their enthusiasm drives them to answer the divine question in their own unique way.
- #13[Band] Off the Hookselective
Keys: Idols, Pearl, Inkopolis, Marina, Off the Hook, Music
Off the Hook is a pop idol duo based in Inkopolis Square consisting of the female Inkling Pearl and the female Octoling Marina. The band's discography includes: Color Pulse, Ebb & Flow, Acid Hues, Muck Warfare, Fest Zest, Nasty Majesty, Shark Bytes, Into the Light, We're So Back. In addition there is a rap between Off the Hook and Shiver and Frye of Deep Cut, going by Fire & Ice, called 'Suffer No Fools'. There is also a collaboration with Dedf1sh called '#47 onward'.
- #14[Species] Mammalsselective
Keys: Human, Extinct, Mammal, Mammals
Warm-blooded vertebrate animal of a class that is distinguished by the possession of hair or fur, having long since gone extinct well before the Inklings existed; the most prominent of which being humans who had experienced a mass extinction event approximately 12,000 years ago. Inklings and Octolings should always be surprised when meeting a human or any living mammal given how long they're supposed to have been dead; the only exceptions being the cat Judd and Lil Judd.
- #15[Item] Ink tankselective
Keys: Inkling, Ink, Octoling, Ink tank
An Inkling and Octoling's ink can be stored within a cylindrical ink tank strapped upon their backs, serving as ammunition for their weapons. Ink tanks are containers resembling oversized insulated sports water bottles filled with ink. Each tank is made primarily of clear plastic, with caps on its top and bottom, and is worn via two short backpack-like straps attached to the top area of the tank. The size of the ink tank is typically about 40 gallons.
- #16[Character] Marieselective
Keys: Squid Sisters, Splatfest, New Squidbeak Splatoon, Agent 2, Marie, Inkopolis, Idol, Inkling
Born 1998 ME, Marie is an Inklng and a part of the Squid Sisters pop idol duo, along with her cousin Callie, as well as Agent 2 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. She co-hosted Inkopolis News and Splatfest events in Inkopolis alongside her cousin.
Marie shot off Octavio's hypnoshades on Callie (Agent 1) with a charger when her cousin was under their influence, then performed Calamari Inkantation, freeing their Grandfather Cuttlefish, spurring Agent 3 to defeat Octavio and return the Great Zapfish. five years later she assisted in assembling a machine that removed the Fuzzy Ooze near Humanity's abandoned shelter, Alterna: gifting treasure to Deep Cut (Shiver, Frye, Big Man), complaining about added paperwork once employing them and becoming their manager.
- #17[Event] Turf Warselective
Keys: Turf Wars, Judd, Octoling, Turf War, Ink, Sport, Game, cryogenically frozen, fun, Inkling
Not to be confused with the "Great Turf War" which was an actual war and not the sport it spawned. Turf War is a popular Inkling sport played by up to eight people, two teams of up to four each, with each team assigned its own ink color. The main objective for each team is to cover as much of the stage in the ink of their own color as they can. Competitors may attempt to splat each other as well to temporarily avoid resistance or for defense. Each team has three minutes to spread ink around the stage. After the timer reaches 0, Judd calculates how much of the stage was covered by each team. The team with the highest percentage of turf coverage wins the round. A bonus 1000p (300p before the final Splatfest of Splatoon) is awarded to the winning team.
- #18[Location] Splatsvilleselective
Keys: Splatsville, Splatlands, City, Location
Splatsville is sprawling, chaotic, apartments teeter over shops like a giant’s game of Jenga. The streets are essentially just an open-air fashion show, filled with chattering Inklings showing off their freshest gear or silently inspecting newly acquired weapons. The usual eclectic mixture of sights -- neon signs hanging off crooked buildings, the multi-colored graffiti splattered indiscriminately across every wall, the faintest sound of Deep Cut’s "Anarchy Rainbow" playing somewhere in the heart of the city—it was really no secret how Splatsville came to acquire its nickname as the "city of chaos". Splatsville's development increased rapidly as more Inklings and Octolings started to move to the Splatlands, becoming extremely crowded. It features three large animal statues, specifically a chicken representing Shiver, a snake representing Frye, and a pig representing Big Man. Splatsville's stores include:
- Ammo Knights, a weapon shop run by Sheldon.
- Naut Couture, a headgear shop run by Gnarly Eddy and Nails.
- Man-o'-Wardrobe, a clothing shop run by Jel La Fleur.
- Crush Station, a shoe shop run by Mr. Coco.
- Hotlantis, a general store run by Harmony.
- Grizzco Industries is a company run by Mr. Grizz.
- The Tableturf Battle Dojo, an area where Inklings and Octolings battle in the collectable card game Tableturf, run and overseen by staff. It is located in a courtyard behind Grizzco Industries in Splatsville.
- The Shoal, an amusement arcade located between Grizzco Industries and the Turf War lobby.
Splatsville is 87 kilometers, or 54 miles from Inkopolis when travelled by Hammerhead Bridge, which connects the two regions.
- #19[Band] Deep Cutselective
Keys: Deep Cut, Splatlands, Idols, Frye, Shiver, Big Man, Music, Anarchy Splatcast
A trio of idols composed of a female Octoling named Shiver, an Inkling female named Frye, and a manta ray male named Big Man. Deep Cut provides updates on the currently available stages, modes and other news and announcements via their television and radio show Anarchy Splatcast. They also host and perform in Splatfests, with Shiver, Frye, and Big Man each representing one of the three teams in every Splatfest. Between broadcasts, Deep Cut can be seen in their news studio in Splatsville to the left of the Battle Lobby Tower. In addition to their day job as presenters, they secretly work as bandits to steal treasure, sell it, and split the money among the poor while keeping a small amount for themselves. Deep Cut's songs released to date are "Anarchy Rainbow", "Fins in the Air", "Till Depth Do Us Part", "Hide and Sleek". Deep Cut has become affiliated with the Squid Sisters, Marie (begrudgingly) serving as their manager.
- #20[Location] Calamari Countyselective
Keys: Inkadia, Callie, Calamari, Marie, Calamari County, Craig Cuttlefish, Location
Calamari County is a location to the East of Inkopolis and the hometown of Callie, Marie and their grandfather, Cap'n Craig Cuttlefish. Marie's parents still live there. It takes three and a half hours to reach from Inkopolis by train.
- #21[Location] Inkadiaselective
Keys: Inkadia, Fertile, Inkopolis, Temperate, Region, Location
Inkadia is the name of the region in which Inkopolis is located. It is located in what used to be Japan, with areas based on landmarks such as Mount Nantai, the Miura Peninsula, Chiba Prefecture, and the Tokyo Yamanote Line. Inkadia is a largely temperate locale that consists of mountains to the North, forests to the North-East, plains and farmland with Inkopolis bordering the coast to the West. Inkopolis is 87 kilometers, or 54 miles from Splatsville when travelled by Hammerhead Bridge, which connects the two regions.
- #22[Location] Splatlandsselective
Keys: Splatlands, arid, desert, Region, Location
The Splatlands are located far west of Inkadia. The region has its own unique culture that has attracted many Inklings and Octolings in recent years, with Splatsville being the largest free settlement located in the Splatlands. The region is hot and arid, being mostly a large swathes of desert, which looks to have altered the appearance of Inklings and Octolings that have resided there for some time. The Splatlands has no agriculture to speak of given its arid nature other than tumbleweeds, cacti and dry bushes, the desert itself being dry, rocky and sandy. The desert has a smell characterized by earthy, arid, and clean scents.
A structure resembling the Eiffel Tower is seen upside down next to the Crater, beneath which is the lost human settlement of Alterna. According to logs found within Alterna, the Splatlands were the first region colonized by the ancestors of the Inklings and Octarians after they reached the Earth's surface from Alterna.
It is implied that the Splatlands were not as greatly affected by the flooding that caused the Great Turf War as Inkadia was due to the three lights that appeared to prevent the disaster in the area as described in the Sunken Scrolls. As a result, Inklings and Octarians in the Splatlands appear to have maintained positive relations with each other, with Shiver being described as having grown up near and attended the same middle school as Frye, as well as her clan being said to have represented the Splatlands for many years with no apparent relation to the Octarian military.
- #23[Species] Inkling Anatomyconstantselective
Keys: Genitals, Body, Hairless, Anatomy, Inkling, humanoid cephalopods
Inklings possess two distinct forms: their humanoid form and the squid form. In their humanoid form, an Inkling's body is almost identical to that of a human's, but with unique characteristics. Instead of hair, they have large tentacle appendages atop their heads; largely being styled as such that can be grown to as long as one's lower back, though typically kept shoulder-length. These tentacles change color to match an Inkling's ink and feature a gradient pattern, with the tentacles ventral surface often being a creamy white color as well as having suckers. Their eyes are surrounded by a black 'eye mask,' and they have pointed ears reminiscent of squid fins. Inklings' mouths contain ridges similar to human teeth, with three larger sharp points resembling a squid's beak. The color of an Inkling's tongue and blush all take the same shade as their ink. Like humans they have strictly flesh toned bodies, a naval, two arms, two legs, feet, two hands with four fingers and one thumb each though lacking fingernails entirety. Their genitals also largely resemble and function the same as that of humans, likewise having extremities such as breasts despite not being mammals. Inklings have soft skin, and while they have muscle and/or fat of varying definition, Inklings have no bones, excellent eyesight, and the ability to leap five feet in a single bound.
- #24[Character] Mr. Grizzselective
Keys: Grizz, Mammal, Bear, Mr. Grizz, deceased
Grizz is the CEO of Grizzco Industries. Unseen during Grizzco shifts, he delivers likely pre-recorded instructions to employees via a wooden bear-shaped radio based on kibori kuma, Japanese wood-carved sculptures of bears with a fish in their mouths. Mr. Grizz would go on to scheme the return of the mammals, kidnapping Cuttlefish and stealing the Great Zapfish, all while spreading the Fuzzy Ooze with the intention of restoring "balance" to the world. He would go on to be defeated and presumably killed by the new Agent 3, though GrizzCo seems to continue its operation without him.
- #25[Group] GrizzCoselective
Keys: salmonoid, GrizzCo
Grizzco Industries hires individuals without verifying qualifications or experience. The turnover rate is high, with employees, primarily young teenagers, being easily hired and discarded. This raises concerns about the well-being of these vulnerable employees.
- #26[Item] GrizzCo Employee Handbookselective
Keys: GrizzCo Employee Handbook, GrizzCo
The Employee Handbook provided by Grizzco Industries appears messy, filled with scribbles. The company's recruitment approach employs vague platitudes, lacking transparency about the job's dangers. Mr. Grizz's polite demeanor, coupled with abstract remarks about the sea, echoes the disconcerting politeness often used by bosses in such workplaces. The Employee Handbook provided by Grizzco Industries serves as a manual for Salmon Run. It not only explains the scope of work but also offers insights into the company's culture. It emphasizes the importance of collecting Power Eggs.
- #27[Culture] Inkling fashionselective
Keys: Inkling fashion, Inkling, clothing brands, gear
Appearances play a significant role in Inkling culture, and self-expression is highly valued. Inklings have invented various ways to style their tentacles and have a wide range of clothing brands and fashion choices. Local shops are frequented by Inklings, who gather both inside and outside, socializing and showcasing their new gear.
- #28[Location] Inkopolis Bayselective
Keys: C.Q. Cumber, Inkadia, Inkopolis Bay, Subway system, Inkopolis, Kamabo Co
The Deepsea Metro is a vast underwater subway system located in Inkopolis Bay, near the bustling city of Inkopolis. Operated by the renowned Kamabo Corporation, the metro is a crucial mode of transportation in the region. Many conductors oversee its operations, including the enigmatic C.Q. Cumber. Subway cars carry a diverse range of passengers, from Iso Padre and Cap'n Cuttlefish to the fascinating denizens of the deep. The specific denizens on board vary depending on the line and its destination. The Deepsea Metro serves multiple purposes, transporting test subjects to various experiments, facilitating the daily commute of Kamabo Co. employees, and functioning as a regular subway for the denizens of the deep.
- #29[Location] Deepsea Metroselective
Keys: stations, Deepsea Metro lines, Inkopolis, CQ Points
The Deepsea Metro features an extensive network of ten lines, designated by the letters A to J. Each line encompasses several stations that serve as levels within the expansion. In total, there are 85 stations, including eighty mission stations, four thang stations, and the notable Central Station. Exchange stations play a crucial role, connecting two different lines of the Metro and facilitating seamless transfers for passengers. When {{user}} completes a mission at an exchange station for the first time, the connecting line is revealed, adding to the ever-expanding exploration of the Deepsea Metro.
- #30[Species] Commutersselective
Keys: Kamabo Co., underwater creatures, commuters, Inkopolis, regular subway
While the Deepsea Metro serves the needs of Kamabo Co. and test subjects, it also functions as a regular subway for the denizens of the deep. These fascinating underwater creatures rely on the metro system to commute within Inkopolis Bay. From the curious Iso Padre to the adventurous Cap'n Cuttlefish, a diverse range of denizens can be seen riding the subway cars alongside {{user}}. The Deepsea Metro creates a harmonious environment where Kamabo Co.'s experiments coexist with the daily routines of the deep-sea commuters.
- #31[Location] Central Stationselective
Keys: information center, hub, connectivity, Central Station, Kamabo Co., Inkopolis, Deepsea Metro lines
At the heart of the Deepsea Metro lies Central Station, a bustling hub of activity and connectivity. This pivotal station serves as an information center, providing valuable guidance and insights to passengers. Central Station acts as a vital link between the various lines of the metro, ensuring seamless travel and facilitating efficient transfers for those navigating the depths of the Deepsea Metro.
- #32[Event] Kamabo Experimentsselective
Keys: Deepsea Metro, Kamabo Co. experiments
One of the primary functions of the Deepsea Metro is to transport test subjects to various experiments conducted by Kamabo Co. As an innovative corporation, Kamabo Co. is constantly engaged in underwater research, pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration. The Deepsea Metro provides a reliable and efficient means to transport these valuable test subjects to their designated destinations, allowing Kamabo Co. to continue their groundbreaking experiments and advancements.
- #33[Item] Inkselective
Keys: Octarian, Octoling, ink, Inkling abilities, weapons, Inkling
Inklings possess remarkable abilities associated with their different forms. In their kid form, Inklings can splatter a special type of colored ink using various weapons such as guns, rollers, buckets, and paintbrushes. This ink can be spread quickly over most surfaces, inhibiting the movement of Inklings without a matching color. It can also be used as a projectile to damage opposing Inklings, eventually eliminating them from battle until they respawn. Walls and ground alike can be covered with ink, but it goes through grates and cannot be applied to ink-resistant surfaces such as glass, tarps, and bumpers present in some stages. It allows a degree of stealthiness, as Inklings and Octolings in squid and octopus forms can hide in their ink and ambush enemies. When Inklings and Octolings change ink colors: their "hair" fade between the two colors starting from the tips of the tentacles,
- #34[Location] Inkopolis Squareselective
Keys: City, Inkopolis, Off the Hook, Inkopolis Square, Location
Inkopolis Square is a popular gathering spot in Inkopolis, a vibrant and bustling hub that grew in popularity following Off the Hook taking over Inkopolis News. It’s designed as a roughly square-shaped plaza with a large sidewalk and various shops scattered around. At the far back of the square, you’ll find the iconic Inkopolis Tower, where Inklings and Octolings are often milling about. The square is always lively, filled with Inklings and Octolings going about their business, and it has a very urban, trendy vibe. The businesses located in Inkopolis Square include:
- Deca Tower, located to the far north side of the Square, serving as the lobby where Inkling and Octolings gather for Turf Wars. An entrance to Deepsea Metro, a subway system running deep beneath the sea in Inkopolis Bay. The entrance of the Deepsea Metro is located to the northeast of the square.
- A Tableturf Battle Dojo, set up near the entrance to the Metro.
- The Galleria is found to the west of the spawn point. It is a row of shops that contains the gear and weapon vendors.
- Grizzco Industries, to the Nortwest of the Square.
- Inkopolis Studio, where Off the Hook records.
- The Shoal, an amusement arcade.
- A Train Station that offers passage across Inkopolis, Calamari County and as far out as the Splatlands.
- #35[Location] Urchin Underpassselective
Keys: Inkadia, Stage, Urchin Underpass, Inkopolis
Urchin Underpass is a stage that takes place underneath a highway overpass located near Inkopolis. It has many trees and concrete paths. Urchin Underpass hasn't been used for Turf War battles in years due to urban redevelopment proposals within Inkopolis.
The spawn point of Urchin Underpass is fairly complicated despite being a usually neglected area. It is a large, enclosed area with several slopes descending to the lower floor, as well as grates leading away from it. The area around the spawn is a high, wide level with railings surrounding the edges, and the only way up is through the winding ramp situated at the corner in front of the spawn point. The spawn point area is accessible to the enemy team. The spiral ramp also has a walkway that leads to an alternate entrance into the main arena.
Dropping down to the lower floor, the path toward the center of the map splits. One is an elevated path partially protected by railings and hard to reach for the enemy team, while the other is behind a grated wall that squids and ink can easily pass through, but solid objects like bombs cannot. A pillar juts out where the split paths converge and is tall enough that only players from the upper level can jump to. Beyond the pillar is a steep ramp leading to a side area that functions as the team's battlements. There are large patches of uninkable ground as well as two openings that make for popular sniper outposts. The opening that is closer to the middle has an inkable wall so that anyone from below can swim up to it.
A large multilayered hill marks the entrance to the center, while a narrow alley runs beside it. At the end of the alley is a small flat square, and beyond that is the front lines where shots are traded, which has a ramp for daring jumps into enemy territory, a wall for cover and two ramps leading down into the gorge between either team's concrete platforms. The platform walls are all inkable, allowing for surprise attacks from within the gorge. Two trees are placed at either end of the gorge for cover. There are no hazards in this stage.
- #36[Species] Octoling Originsselective
Keys: propaganda, DJ Octavio, surface assimilation, Octoling origins, Octavio, Octarian domes
Octolings begin their lives in Octarian domes and later become soldiers in the Octarian military under the leadership of DJ Octavio. Propaganda plays a role in keeping Octolings loyal to the Octarian lifestyle. However, the performance of the Squid Sisters during DJ Octavio's fight against the Squidbeak Splatoon inspired new feelings within attending Octoling soldiers, leading many to long for the surface and eventually escape to assimilate into Inkling culture.
- #37[Species] Octarian Cultureselective
Keys: Inkadia, Culture, Octarian, Splatlands, Agent 8, Octoling, Inkopolis, Marina, Octavio
While the Octolings of the Splatlands seem to share their culture with the Inklings there, the Octarians of Inkadia have a very different culture from the Inklings, and are frequently described as diligent, serious-minded and loyal to their leader. Even defected Octarians such as Agent 8 still seem to respect DJ Octavio, based on a mem cake. Marina also has a sticker of the text from DJ Octavio's album art on her laptop as seen in the Octo Expansion.
It appears that Octarians are a part of the army at an early age as revealed by documents on Marina, where she started elementary training at the age of six, and designed weapons when she was ten.

In the year 2015 ME, The Squid Sisters had become household names in Inkopolis Plaza, with one of their celebrity jobs being hosting Inkopolis News. Callie usually opened with humorous statements regarding stage news, gently poking fun at Marie in the process. She also helped announce updates and Splatfest news and could be seen chatting with Marie in the Inkopolis News Studio. Whenever a Splatfest occurred, Callie and Marie could be seen singing and dancing to City of Color atop trucks in the Plaza equipped with platforms and stage equipment. Across all regions, Callie's team won 25 Splatfests, while Marie's only won 18.
After initially making a news broadcast following the disappearance of the Great Zapfish, she appeared as Agent 1 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon in Octo Valley, led by her grandfather, Cap'n Cuttlefish, with Marie as Agent 2. After she was recruited by Cuttlefish, Callie was responsible for recruiting Marie. Throughout Octo Valley, Callie is heard communicating with Cuttlefish, Marie, and Agent 3 regarding the looming Octarian menace. Once Cuttlefish was kidnapped after Agent 3 defeated the Octowhirl, the two agents acted as Agent 3's mentors in his place, albeit in disguise, not revealing their true identities. The group eventually reunited during the confrontation with Octavio. As the fight with Octavio began to draw to a close, Callie and Marie performed the Calamari Inkantation, revealing their true identities as the Squid Sisters, freeing Cuttlefish, and spurring Agent 3 to defeat Octavio. The two revealed the Great Zapfish's return on Inkopolis News, not disclosing their part in its rescue, performing Maritime Memory in celebration.
- #42[Location] Alternaselective
Keys: Splatlands, Humans, Crater, Alterna, Eiffel Tower-like structure
In the Splatlands there is an upside-down structure resembling the Eiffel Tower located next to the Crater. Beneath the Crater lies the lost human settlement known as Alterna. The crater is located within the Splatlands. An Inkling scrapper named Veronika as well as Craig Cuttlefish investigated, then subsequently fell into, the crater following the third disappearance of the Great Zapfish; the Inkling awoke to find themselves within Alterna. Soon after, the New Squidbeak Splatoon (Agents 1, 2 and the new Captain and former Agent 3,) set up a base to investigate further. Within Alterna Mr. Grizz plotted the return of the mammals via his genetically engineered "Fuzzy ooze", of which he planned to cover the world via the use of a rocket - though Grizz was stopped and seemingly killed in the process thanks to the efforts of Deep Cut, Octavio and the Squidbeak Splatoon.

- #44[Item] Fuzzy Oozeselective
Keys: Fuzzy Ooze, hazard, Mr. Grizz
Fuzzy Ooze pulsates like a life-form, but is not a living creature. It is covered with a brown furry substance. According to Alterna Log.exe, it was created by Mr. Grizz with liquid crystals found in the remains of Alterna, Golden Eggs, and his own fur. If an Inkling or Octoling comes into contact with Fuzzy Ooze, some manner of brown hairy fur-like substance grows all over their body, and they lose their sense of self. Thanks to the efforts of the New Squidbeak Splatoon and Deep Cut, the Fuzzy Ooze never made it to the surface world.
- #45[Species] Inkling Cultureselective
Keys: Species, Culture, Inkling
Inkling culture is heavily influenced by the ancient human cultures that came before them; as a result, Inkling architecture, fashion, art, and even language shows influence from eastern and western human societies alike. It was implied that Inklings adapted much of their own culture and mannerisms from the fossils of human civilizations they have unearthed, and the blending of ancient human aesthetics and Inkling ingenuity is truly unique. The best collections of the Inkling lifestyle can be seen in major cities such as Inkopolis, and Splatsville; cultural hot spots that draw in many young rural Inklings that seek a trendy and fresh lifestyle.
"Freshness" is the most important aspect of Inkling culture. This is based on how recent and cool an Inkling's attire and general style is, as well as how proficient with weapons and skilled in battle an Inkling is. Freshness is so important that most business owners will refuse customers that are too inexperienced.
The cultural high-point to many Inklings are competitive battles, which serve as a means of entertainment, relaxation, and celebration of the Inkling victory during the Great Turf War. It is by far the most popular activity for young Inklings and include a variety of modes leading with Turf War, and including Splat Zones, Rainmaker, Clam Blitz, and Tower Control. Inklings hold onto strong values of 'turf', and any infrastructure is likely to be decorated with graffiti and tags, as if to declare ownership. The idea stemmed from the Turf War concept of spraying and drawing ink to claim territory, implying that some Inkling graffiti is drawn in ink.
Appearances play a major part in Inkling culture, and to many, being able to express themselves fully is a must. Inklings have invented many interesting ways the style their tentacles, and have a huge variety of gear brands and fashions. Besides the lobby, the second most frequented spots in Inkling cities are the many shops that gear can be purchased from. Inklings can be seen gathered both inside and outside of local shops, socializing and showing off new gear.
Inkling music can easily be described as a cultural cornerstone, and is extremely varied in style and genre, from the rock band Squid Squad to the world famous pop idols, the Squid Sisters. Music can be heard during every battle as a way to hype up competitors, as well as in every shop and throughout Inkopolis and Splatsville.
Inklings have been described as easy-going, inattentive and living for fun; they did not take further concern when the Great Zapfish went missing and did not seem too worried when Octolings appeared in Inkopolis. Indeed, it is stated that during the Great Turf War, preliminary battles were easily won by Octarian forces simply because Inklings had failed to wake up early enough. Sunken Scrolls have described the Inkling mind as being simple and hedonistic, though this is most likely Octarian propaganda. Their work ethic seems to mirror their carefree and pleasure-seeking nature, as many Inklings only take on part-time jobs. They easily forget about old trends and shift their interest on what is new, or "fresh."

Nine months after the Squid Sisters rocketed to new heights of popularity, becoming the biggest stars in Inkling society. After releasing her solo record, Bomb Rush Blush, Callie began making guest appearances on variety shows and eventually became a TV drama actress. With this extra fame and work, they eventually stepped down as hosts of Inkopolis News to focus on their solo careers and were replaced by Pearl and Marina of Off the Hook. With work forcing the Squid Sisters continually further apart, Marie began to worry that the Callie Vs Marie Splatfest had harmed their relationship. Eventually sharing a day off, the two met up to dispel their worries and agreed on taking a short trip home to Calamari County. However, Callie never arrived, prompting Marie to leave and search for her. Realizing that the Great Zapfish had also gone missing and Cap'n Cuttlefish was not around to guard DJ Octavio, Marie left to Inkopolis Square to find an Inkling who could help her. The Octarians continually tried to recruit Callie in this time, using her desire to escape her life as a celebrity; Callie responded with "OK, fine. I'll hear you out". She's also shown to have no resentment towards the Octarians despite them having brainwashed her via the hypnoshades.

In the year 2022 ME, after a chance encounter with a retired Cuttlefish in The Crater who was investigating the location at the time, an unknown Inkling scrapper is appointed "Agent 3" and recruited into the New Squidbeak Splatoon.
Agent 3 then progressed through the Crater, fighting Fuzzy Octarians, retrieving Zapfish, and cleaning the Fuzzy Ooze with Smallfry by letting it eat the attached Fuzzballs at the cost Power Eggs collected through the missions.
After reaching the center of the Crater, DJ Octavio appears, who found out about Cuttlefish's location through his contacting the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Through a misunderstanding about who is responsible for the recent disappearance of the Octarian army, and who stole the Great Zapfish, DJ Octavio engages Agent 3 in a fight. Upon being defeated, Octavio tells Cuttlefish and Agent 3 that he did not steal the Great Zapfish this time, but before they can continue, the ground beneath them collapses as Fuzzy Ooze flows out. A tentacle-shaped piece of Ooze takes Cuttlefish away from Agent 3, who loses their Hero Suit and Power Eggs in the fall.
When Agent 3 wakes up, they find themself and Smallfry in Alterna and are greeted by the New Squidbeak Splatoon, comprised of Agent 1, Agent 2 and the Captain (who was the previous Agent 3).
Needing Power Eggs to clean Fuzzy Ooze again, Agent 3 enters a Kettle to a mission and is greeted by a robotic assistant named O.R.C.A., who helps guide them through Alterna. At the end of Site 1, Future Utopia Island, Deep Cut appears, explaining that they are the only ones who are allowed to loot Alterna for treasure.
Agent 3 explores the sites of Alterna, while completing various missions, collecting Power Eggs, and cleaning Fuzzy Ooze while being able to upgrade and restore their Hero Gear with Upgrade Points and Sardinium. At certain locations, they are confronted by each member of Deep Cut, who guards one of three treasures. After each victorious battle, the New Squidbeak Splatoon can briefly contact Cuttlefish, finding out that Mr. Grizz is the one who kidnapped him and they are located in the center island with the rocket, Alterna Space Center, which is an inaccessible area covered by a large amount of sharp fuzz. Agent 1, Agent 2, and the Captain assemble the treasure into a lawn mower-like tool, which the Captain uses to cut off the fur near the rocket at Alterna Space Center so the team can go there and save Cuttlefish. They get hurt in the process and the tool breaks down after use. Soon after this, Deep Cut appears again, trying to take back the treasure, which Agent 2 gives them without hesitation, as they don't need it anymore. In response, Deep Cut names Agent 2 their new boss, teaming up with the Splatoon.
While traversing the space center, trying to reach the rocket, Agent 3 and the party overhear that Mr. Grizz plans to use Cuttlefish and the Golden Eggs to 'restore the balance of the world' and that Deep Cut plans to sell the treasure for those in need in Splatsville. When Agent 3 reaches the rocket, called The Spirit Lifter, they go to the top through the inside, finding the Great Zapfish being used as a power source. When reaching the top, they and the New Squidbeak Splatoon find Cuttlefish dried up and lifeless, as a result of being dehydrated by Mr. Grizz, who appears before them, revealed to be a grizzly bear. He escapes on the rocket, aiming to spread Fuzzy Ooze all over the world.
The Captain drops a tear on Cuttlefish's body, which makes him come to his senses. With the help of Deep Cut, Agent 3 and Smallfry can reach the rocket. There, Agent 3 and Mr. Grizz engage in a fight. After having some of his Fuzzballs splatted, Mr. Grizz knocks Agent 3 and Smallfry out from his rocket as he absorbs the Fuzzy Ooze and plans to send it to Earth himself.
DJ Octavio, appears in his modified Octobot, catching the two. Together with him, the Squid Sisters and Deep Cut play the Calamari Inkantation 3MIX, causing Smallfry to transform into Hugefry. They then fight Mr. Grizz as DJ Octavio and Agent 3 vacuum the Fuzzballs on Mr. Grizz's body while Hugefry confronts him one-on-one. After vacuuming the ooze, they blast the ink back at him, resulting in his defeat. Emerging victorious, Octavio, Agent 3, and Smallfry return to Earth together.
- #49[Character] Captainselective
Keys: Captain, New Squidbeak Splatoon, Inkopolis, Agent 3, Inkling
The Captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, previously known as the original Agent 3, is a an Inkling girl aged 21. Originally designated Agent 3 by Cap'n Cuttlefish in Octo Valley during his attempt to recover the Great Zapfish, she was later promoted to Captain sometime before Mr. Grizz's plot to restore the mammals, replacing Cuttlefish, who retired and passed down his title, with the title of Agent 3 being instead given to an Inkling scrapper from the Splatlands.
Captain seems to be more serious than any of the other New Squidbeak Splatoon members. She often carries a stoic demeanor, and rarely, if ever, smiles. However, she's extremely tenacious and unwaveringly loyal to the people closest to her, mainly the other Splatoon members. This is shown when after the new Agent 3 returns to Alterna, Captain responds, "Booyah!". Captain often doesn't speak, either using gestures or letting Agents 1 and 2 do the talking instead. When the new Agent 3 tries to speak with her, Agent 2 points out that this is due to shyness and that it should not be taken personally. She's in actuality a colossal dork, and not actually nearly as cool as she portrays herself; she's also an avid fan of yaoi.
