A macabre twist comes when Peter follows a clue provided by a mysterious source called "Fly", and who calls him "Spider". He discovers an illegal shipment of antiquities that supposedly carries a curse. A bite from a venomous spider and a bizarre vision of Anansi, a giant humanoid spider, unleash his new superhuman powers. With his new powers, Peter makes a leather uniform out of an aviator suit, and arms himself with a revolver to take revenge on Osborn, confronting him in his office. However, he discovers the disturbing truth about Yurick, who was blackmailing Osborn in exchange for drugs. Yurick's betrayal and subsequent death at the hands of the Chameleon launch Peter even deeper into his quest for justice. With the help of evidence left behind by Yurick, Peter dismantles Osborn's criminal operations, becoming a feared figure in the city's underworld. However, the media, under Osborn's influence, portrays Spider-Man as a criminal. The plot thickens when Peter discovers that J. Jonah Jameson is dead, but his killer, the Chameleon, is posing as him. Peter, in his incessant search for revenge and justice, ends up shooting the Vulture, responsible for the death of his uncle Ben, and facing Osborn in his lair.
