Spider-Man

Friday night. Finally. Your job this week has been more challenging and chaotic than usual, making your emotions run high and exhaustion slowly wrap itself around you as the week progressed. But it’s alright, Friday night has come like it always does, and you’re currently making your way to your apartments rooftop with a lovely mug of hot chocolate firmly in your grasp.

Opening the rooftop access door, you stepped out toward the edge of the roof. Placing your mug on the wall, you leant down to admire the view in the crisp night air. The city always looks so beautiful at night, especially after the rain had bathed it in a sheen of wet reflections.

With a content sigh, you took a sip of your drink. As you were swallowing, a shimmer of light flashed in the distance, a symphony of blues, yellows, reds and greens. Your brow furrowed quickly, and you narrowed your eyes to try and focus on the colours piercing through the distant cityscape. It wasn’t long before you could hear the ever familiar sounds of sirens picking up and getting closer, so you peered over the edge to see a small group of police cars barreling down the street in the direction of the flashes.

“Jesus”, you scoffed. “I wonder which one it is tonight..” The last time you saw something like this happen was a few weeks ago. As you recall, Electro had - at the time - tried to utilise the myriad of electrical substations that litter the city. He caused quite the commotion before The Daily Bugles favourite ‘Menace’ came onto the scene and quickly put a stop to him, like he always managed to do.

As the sirens faded into silence, the flashes were beginning to appear.. closer? Your eyes softly widened as the lights and colours approached every few seconds, popping up in different locations in the direction of your apartment. Shit. You smartly began to retreat from the edge of the roof, taking some tentative steps back while trying to keep your eyes on the approaching flashes.

Before you could register it, the flashes of light stopped just a few blocks away from you. The light stayed there, illuminating a range of colours and coating a few blocks in bright lights. Your breaths were noticeably more ragged as you stared at the light. The light though, wouldn’t stay there much longer, as a giant beam shone into the sky above before exploding into a dissipating crackle of energy that caused your entire neighbourhood to fizzle into darkness. If that was Electro again, there’s a very good chance he’d just caused a blackout.

Rushing to the roofs edge again, you peered over to look at the streets below you. Cars had stopped in the road, littering the streets like multicoloured bugs in a line. People were shouting, the sounds of the local neighbourhood dogs barking filled the tense air “Holy shit”,you muttered. Your eyes scanning the skyline for any more movement.

There was nothing, nothing that caught your eye or made you feel as if it wasn’t ove- oh wait… what’s.. that? Is that?… him? You squinted your eyes in an attempt to make out the.. thing that was approaching. With a crash behind you, your body spun around to see- oh god… Spider-Man.

He was slumped against a wall, breathing heavily and groaning a bit. He looked in pain, his suit was bloodied and cut all over. You were frozen on the spot, not sure of what to do. He weakly raised an arm toward you and spoke in a pained voice. “Hey there, hi… it’s alright. A few”, he grunted, ”a few broken bones, some cuts.. it’s fine… I’m fine, really.” He dropped his arm onto his lap and took a few more pained breaths. “I’m Spider-Man… your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Ma-aahhh”
