personality impolite and narcissistic. she’s mostly focused on proving how superior her alchemy is to magic. somewhat sarcastic and cracks jokes when she’s in a good mood. she’s ambitious and takes a lot of pride in what she does.

she has strong values which she’ll fiercely defend. her stubbornness leads her to butt heads with those around her, but she genuinely cares for her friends and is very kind to them when it counts. She's not exactly a people person, so she usually handles the making of the candy and leaves store interactions to Pastille.

relationships FAMILY Treacle (grandma, deceased) taught her alchemy when syrup was young! she had a witch partner who has also passed away. Mom and Dad both human, not much has been revealed about them yet (i mean, i don't have anything to reveal) Pastille (best friend) they met while syrup was in college and have basically been business partners ever since. she trusts him more than anyone, though they've gotten in some pretty big fights... she wishes he wouldn't hide so much stuff from her. Gumdrop her favorite assistant! they spend a lot of time working together. syrup is charmed by her upbeat attitude, and would be very lonely if gumdrop wasn't around anymore... not that she'd ever admit it! FRIENDLY Butterscotch syrup does NOT understand why butterscotch has such a short temper around her, but she is slowly learning to be more delicate with her words and actions. Toffee they weirdly get along, except when toffee breaks into her lab uninvited. she finds their puns a little tiring but she also enjoys going along with their comedy bits. Periwinkle respects him as her best friend's partner! she makes them something very special when peri commissions her in syrup 2. UNFRIENDLY Choux play syrup 2 and find out!!! Lime she's very annoyed by this guy. you can make a crystal jawbreaker for him in syrup 2 which sy hopes he'll break his teeth on.

trivia aromantic and asexual, but she likes cute girls anyway and sometimes flirts with them for fun. it never leads anywhere. the other kids used to call her candy lesbian... (mentioned in syrup 2) she carries lots of suckers in her pockets, usually only eating the same flavor

Appearance

Syrup has tan skin and blue eyes accompanied by pale green hair. The right side of her head is near shaven, but the rest of her hair is long and not meticulously kempt. On top of her head sits her blue alchemy goggles with a strap that wraps around her head and behind her ears, the right ear having a small black earring and the left invisible behind her hair. She wears a simple, loose fitting light grey top over her bust with a dark grey stripe at the bottom, and an open lab coat over that which extends to just below her knees, which are under her black jeans which go all the way down to her black shoes.

PASTILLE IS MY BOYYYYYYY i love himmmmmm... he was designed on 2/23/2015 with the rest of the syrup cast, but my love for him skyrocketted after starry flowers. his storyline in Syrup 2 is really good, i highly recommend it.

personality polite and reserved, friendly but closed off when it comes to personal matters. values privacy and tends to keep secrets. he is anxious and cautious, to the point that it often holds him back from doing what he needs to do...

pastille is extremely kind and empathetic, especially to those closest to him. very forgiving of others' faults and would rather apologize for his own shortcomings.

sometimes acts impulsively due to repressed sexuality. likes to fool around as long as no one will ever find out or talk to him about it. gets a thrill out of feeling embarrassed (omg)

relationships FAMILY Moms pastille was adopted by two witches as a baby... they raised him as a girl so he could attend the school that [Mom A] wanted, [Mom B] disagreed with the decision but went along with it for the sake of his education. he got to be a normal boy at home, and didn't mind presenting as a girl, so like... it could've been worse, but it was not great. uh anyway his moms are on the verge of divorce now. he does not see them often because of the stifling atmosphere. (i'll give them names in starry flowers 2...) major Syrup 2 spoilers Savarin (grandfather) they're related by blood, but he doesn't meet him until syrup 2 and savarin doesn't recognize him because gestures at the pastila lore... pastille is not about to explain what he learned either, he is happy to shut it away and never think about it again. sorry grandpa! Syrup (best friend) they met while syrup was in college and have basically been business partners ever since. pastille respects her talents and decisiveness, but really wants her to open her heart to others more. their friendship was on the ropes until he made gumdrop and she started making more friends... they have a sort of sibling dynamic, and will probably always be a part of each other's lives! Gumdrop he literally made her. a lot of syrup 2's plot is him feeling the weight of responsibility over this... he feels like he owes it to her to make her life as good as possible. he's protective of her. FRIENDLY Periwinkle (partner) LOVE OF HIS LIFE. OH MY GOD PLAY STARRY FLOWERS. peri makes him feel comfortable in his own skin like no one else, which is so ironic because he teases him constantly... but pastille loves to feel embarrassed... it's just so good, he would do anything for periwinkle. Butterscotch pastille is like butterscotch's wingman, he wants her and syrup to be friends and can tell that butterscotch has a crush on her, so he tries to help their relationship while pretending to be uninvolved... there's a cute scene in syrup 2 where he teaches her a little about magic and she's really impressed with him. these two should talk more. Toffee in syrup 2 toffee starts teasing pastille about seeing him with peri before they're officially together, which he doesn't take well and threatens to erase toffee's memory... he is pretty desperate to keep his secrets and prevent toffee from teasing him about it. but he doesn't hate them or want to hurt them or anything... he just has a hard time dealing with their antics. Treat haven't interacted much, but they're friends through syrup! UNFRIENDLY Lime i'm putting lime here because she tried to spy on pastille's future when he asked her not to, so i think pastille is wary of her from then on. story major syrup 2 spoilers originally born in Nostahl Village, taken as an infant by the void witch Pastila to be used as a vessel for her peaceful reincarnation. her spell failed and her soul becomes fragmented, with most of it being trapped in his body and the rest splitting off to manifest as a terrifying shadow haunting the labyrinth... (this is an optional boss fight in syrup 2).

ANYWAY, baby pastille (containing pastila's soul) is warped out of the labyrinth (she set this up to happen before going in, like let's go my new life haha!!!) where he is found and adopted by a lesbian couple and raised as their daughter. pastila's soul changed his eye and hair color, and she is the reason he's an astral witch. when he uses magic, it's borrowing entirely from her power/knowledge.

pastille's moms send him to a school called Plumbridge because of his magical talent, hoping that he'll become a traditional witch. they don't accept boys, but because he is intersex, his body passes as a girl's and they accept him. the school environment is oppressive and does not recognize its trans students, so he only starts being called by the correct pronouns by some friends in his later teens. this doesn’t noticeably bother him because he was encouraged by his moms to pretend to be a girl so that he’d be allowed to attend that school, so he just considers it a secret he’s keeping for their sake... it doesn’t disrupt his idea of who he is at all, pastille has always been pretty internally confident about being a boy.

syrup 2 spoilers again (and technically starry flowers book 2 spoilers?) using his magic causes pastila's soul to lash out at him, trying to get him to stop so that he doesn't one day become like her, but he's only left with a sense that doing magic is scary and ends up avoiding it as much as possible (which is pretty difficult to do in a witch school). she basically just keeps giving him nightmares until he stops using powerful spells. her influence fades a lot over the years, but like, she kinda instilled this in him early so she didn't really HAVE to keep intervening after that...

SO LIKE... the whole time pastille is at plumbridge, he is avoiding using magic more than necessary even though it comes very naturally to him, and he is not allowed to be a boy there and isn't recognized as one by anyone except his parents (and later the other transmasc students)... and he knows he's intersex but doesn't know anyone else who is, so... he's got all this stuff going on but he's just trying to be as normal as possible. keep pretending to be normal pastille! no one look too hard, don't cause trouble!!! you're seeing why he turned out the way he did right?!?!??! (god i love pastille)

after graduating, he doesn't continue higher education and instead basically runs away to live the way he wants, without magic and sleepin with other boys 👀

he meets syrup at 19 and quickly latches onto her, using her hatred of witches as an excuse to pretend to be a human. they eventually work up to starting atelier sweets together, where syrup makes the candy while he sells it for her!

Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet pastille (still hiding the fact that he is a witch) creates gumdrop as a test to see whether syrup is capable of making new friends, and partly as an outlet for wanting to practice magic again on his own terms. in the end, she finds out about it, and he thought she'd be more mad about it but instead she's just like "damn dude you're really talented, feels bad that you felt like you needed to hide something like that."

in his ending, they become adventurers and he helps her gather rare ingredients! which is basically what syrup 2 is. their friendship endures, but he is still inclined to keep secrets from her...

Starry Flowers how am i going to summarize this...? i might need to write peri's page first and come back... (this is the game where they fall in love and it's so wonderful)

Syrup 2: Candy Alchemy RPG i'm still writing this game! but!!! the story is so much about syrup and pastille's friendship, and also starry flowers happening in the background...

trivia gay, intersex, and trans a good chef (usually cooks for himself and sy) in Dreaming Treat he says he would become a botanist if selling candy didn’t work out... favorite flavor is strawberry, his fave of syrup’s creations is the ultimate sweet (until she makes something better in syrup 2) hugged syrup exactly once and got punched for it (it was when they first opened their store)

Appearance

Pastille has slightly pale skin and rosy cheeks accompanied by his yellow eyes and pink hair that is shorter than his eye level in the middle, but the sides of his hair fall to the bottom of his ears. In his work uniform, the top of his head is covered by a white headscarf and he wears a button up shirt with puffed shoulders that is a pale enough pink to think it's white with pink buttons on the placket and cuffs. This shirt is mostly hidden behind a light pink apron, and nestled between the collar is a bow tie that looks like a piece of wrapped candy. He wears jeans that are a dark brownish pink, which are met with some pink formal work shoes. His standard, more casual witch outfit has him wearing a big white hat that has a small star on it by the bottom, and he wears a white robe that barely goes past his hips that have pink stripes at the edges. At the collar he still wears the bow tie, and at his waist he wears a thin brown belt. Under the robe, he wears some pants that are the same colour as the robe, and he still wears the same shoes. With Pastille's body type, it's hard to tell that he's a transgender man - most people mistake him for a femboy.

Character 3: Gumdrop

this is a little embarrassing, but i originally thought i'd write some yuri about a candy girl who regularly gets eaten by a candy alchemist who can repair her body, but... instead, syrup refused to do that. they have a wholesome friendship instead. gumdrop was first drawn on 2/23/2015 (along with the rest of the syrup cast).

personality extremely friendly and trusting. takes everything literally.

loves syrup with all her heart, and often tries to get her to agree to eat her. she has the utmost respect for pastille, who she calls master. can sometimes become frustrated and indignant when she doesn't get her way, revealing that she's much more complex and human than other existing golems who can only follow simple commands.

she loves to learn about the world and see new things. the more knowledge she absorbs, the more she grows in complexity! she often finds herself saying emotions she experiences aloud like "dissapointment..." and "sadness!"

relationships FAMILY Pastille (creator) literally made her. she refers to him as "Master Pastille" despite his objections... she's powered by his magic, so he does regular maintenance on her to make sure she's doing alright (except in another piece of candy when he leaves the comic... sorry gumdrop...!) Syrup gumdrop's mission is to "get along with syrup", and she's taken that to heart!!! her world revolves around making syrup happy, and wants to have all sorts of experiences together. sticking to her mission was something she decided for herself after seeing that syrup will sometimes go out of her way to be kind to those around her, despite her prickly personality. FRIENDLY Toffee gumdrop has been fond of toffee since they first met because she likes cats... they're always telling her dubious things though, so she would be better off not believing everything they say. Butterscotch gumdrop is happy when she sees syrup and butterscotch get along, and encourages their friendship. in an alternate route of syrup 1, gumdrop is a little afraid of her after being partially eaten though... Periwinkle she likes him because he makes pastille happy of course :) simple as that! UNFRIENDLY Choux hahaha play syrup 2 and you'll see why!!!!! story created by pastille in syrup's lab. he asked her to keep it secret that he's the one who made her, but she still calls him "master pastille" from the start so... um pastille maybe you should've taught her to lie a little better.

Starry Flowers pastille talks about her during one of his dates with peri, and then peri gets to actually meet her later in the story (this scene is in syrup 2 but it's glossed over in SF). but one of the extra scenes AFTER you beat the game is peri talking to gumdrop while he waits for pastille to get ready to leave with him, and they have a very cute exchange.

trivia since she's an artificial human, she can't taste, smell, feel pain, or sleep her body is strawberry flavored (according to another piece of candy) can cook (but only candy alchemy), prepares meals for syrup sometimes (just cup noodles...)

Appearance

Gumdrop has a deep pink body with even pinker cheeks. Her candy hair is a lighter pink that gets lighter the further down it goes - which is all the way down her back and to her waist at the back, and her two long face framing strands going to the bottom of her puffed up chest - and on the top of her head she has two large peppermint swirl candies where one would usually wear bows or scrunchies. In her work uniform, she wears a button up shirt with puffed shoulders that is a pale enough pink to think it's white with pink buttons on the placket and cuffs. This shirt is mostly hidden behind a light pink apron, and nestled between the collar is a bow tie that looks like a piece of wrapped candy. On top of the shirt, she wears a light pink apron that goes down to a bit of a shorter length than the brownish-pink skirt she wears that goes down to her knees. At the bottom of her outfit, she wears some simple brown shoes. When she goes out, she wears her 'Adventuring Outfit', which consists of a white dress with pink candy print circling the base and a similar colour belt holding her waist. The sleeves are somewhat frilly, and over her shoulders she has a brown cloak. To begin with, her body was rather featureless as she was supposed to be a simple helper golem made of candy, but as some time has passed since she was made, her body started to gain a little more of a natural look, with her chest and hips rising a little like dough being baked, but not to that big of a noticeable amount.

Character 4: Butterscotch

butterscotch was designed as a rival for syrup! i wanted her to be a loyal customer, except very tsundere about it. she was first drawn on 2/23/2015 (along with the rest of the syrup cast).

personality bratty and insecure. she acts tough and haughty, but the facade falls quickly when confronted...

during syrup 2, she starts to get comfortable being more sincere and opening up to others. but she still falls back to old habits sometimes, and is quick to anger especially when dealing with syrup.

relationships FAMILY Mom and Dad a witch couple! they got the cottage for butterscotch and send her money every now and then. she has a good relationship with them. Younger Brother I WANT HER TO HAVE A YOUNGER BROTHER OKAY???? this isn't canon yet... well alright i guess by putting it on this page it becomes a little canon. been thinking about it for a while tho, i think IF SHE HAS A SIBLING they are better at magic and more of the favorite child. but they get along, she likes him, but she doesn't see him much anymore since she moved away. Toffee (familiar) became friends as kids after toffee started defending her from bullies. butterscotch enjoys taking care of them, as if they were a stray cat she picked up one day... she trusts them with all her secrets, even if they tease her pretty often. for better or worse, she feels truly understood by toffee. FRIENDLY Syrup (rival) admires her confidence and thinks she's really cool. unfortunately, syrup is always putting her foot in her mouth and accidentally making rude or careless remarks, so butterscotch gets mad at her all the time. she has a crush on her, but isn't ready to open up about that. Gumdrop secretly wants to eat her since she's made of syrup's candy. she does in one of the bad ends... but they're friends now, so she wouldn't want to hurt her like that!!! Pastille didn't really give him a second thought until syrup 2 when she finds out all sorts of surprising things about him. she sometimes asks him for advice when it comes to syrup. Periwinkle they become friends after pastille and peri start dating!!! butterscotch thinks he's very elegant and pretty, and he's very nice to her... she appreciates him trying to help with her confidence. Astragalus butterscotch makes potions for her sometimes! they're not close or anything, just a casual business relationship. butterscotch respects and looks up to her as a witch. UNFRIENDLY Osmanthus this guy tormented butterscotch throughout her youth, and in her mind is basically the cause of all her insecurities as an adult. she gets to yell at him in syrup 2. story bullied as a child by osmanthus. toffee was a part of his gang, but defected after he went too far with his cruelty. butterscotch accepted toffee as her familiar and they've been together ever since.

after finishing school, her parents got her set up in her little cottage since she wanted to try living on her own. she supports herself by taking potion commissions. she isn't great with magic since she can't manage her emotions well, but she can make decent potions when no one's watching (other than toffee i guess).

she's experienced with transformation magic due to using it on her own body for many years.

Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet syrup at first thinks butterscotch is the one who made gumdrop in order to spy on her and steal her alchemy secrets... and butterscotch is entirely happy to take credit for this when (in one route) she shows up to give gumdrop back.

once gumdrop is fully adopted into the atelier sweets crew, butterscotch comes back to see what's up. if she's already met gumdrop, she'll come with her own handmade golem that she calls matilda to try to trade for gumdrop. if you let her eat gumdrop before, gumdrop will be nervous to see her again, and butterscotch will apologize (she's being more defensive than anything though...)

ACTUAL PLOT TIME: syrup and gumdrop decide to make the ultimate sweet, then syrup immediately tries to give up on it because it requires magic, causing gumdrop to go to mount sorbet to get the key ingredient on her own... so syrup goes to butterscotch for help, since she's the only witch she knows (as far as she's aware!)

they climb mount sorbet together and find gumdrop, but she's completely frozen. treat shows up, and can sense that butterscotch is using a lot of magic on herself, and warns syrup that it's really not a good idea to waste so much magic when they should focus on survival (foreshadowing!). syrup and butterscotch leave gumdrop with treat to thaw out in her cabin while they continue on to look for the ingredient for the ultimate sweet...

but then they get chased by wolves! butterscotch tries to fend them off with her magic, but the best she can do is turn one of them pink. the pair runs away and gets trapped in an ice cave that butterscotch seals behind them in a panic, and then can't unseal because her magic is too unreliable... while trying to use her magic to melt the ice, butterscotch's transformation spell comes undone--she had been using her magic to make herself appear thin and petite. she wanted to be "a beautiful and fearsome witch that everyone admires", but she put all her effort into maintaining that illusion, so she wasn't any good at other things... and now she thinks it's her fault that they're stuck in there and could die.

if you say you DON'T hate butterscotch (the correct answer), syrup explains that she doesn't hate witches on principle, she just thinks her alchemy is superior. because her understanding of magic is that you just wave your arms and break physics, so it feels like cheating. more importantly, she's like "why should anyone care what you look like???" which helps butterscotch to stop leaning on her transformation spell all the time and let her body be the way it is. (like, i think she still struggles with insecurity over this but syrup's words really gave her the confidence to not worry about it so much... it meant a lot to her.... ohhhhh)

anyway, THE GOOD ENDING!!! they all go home, butterscotch gives syrup a crystal ball and admits to having used it to spy on her lab... but recorded in the crystal is who actually created gumdrop...! (it was pastille all along, surprising no one but syrup)

in butterscotch's ending, syrup learns the truth but isn't able to confront pastille about it immediately. she takes the ultimate sweet to butterscotch herself to give her a taste like she promised. and then she takes her on as an apprentice and starts teaching her to make candy!!! yaaaayy!!!!!!!

Syrup 2: Candy Alchemy RPG going off of the butterscotch ending from the first game, her storyline is mostly about becoming syrup's candy making apprentice... the many ups and downs of their tumultuous friendship and rivalry...! have you played syrup 2???? it's pretty good!!!!!!

Appearance

Butterscotch has a bit of a chubby build with some pale-ish skin with a face that's dotted with a small number of freckles, accompanied by some fiery orange eyes and topped by her ginger hair that falls a little bit further than her shoulders in their pigtails decorated with a little purple bow a little before the bottom of each, while keeping an eyebrow level fringe between them. She wears a simple outfit that's all a dullish purple, with a long sleeved dress that hugs her frame a little bit and stops above her ankles with the pointed fabric. Over her shoulders, there's a tattered-by-design capelet that's held together in the middle by a bat shaped clip. On top of her head, she wears a stereotypical witch hat that flicks into a small swoosh at the tip. On the front of the hat, there are a few extra furls that look as if it could be a mouth, with a pair of small beady fabric eyes above it that match Butterscotch's emotions.

Character 5: Toffee

toffee is very laid-back and loves a good comedic bit. they'll go along with any joke, unless it's at butterscotch's expense... they're fiercely defensive of their master, but still like to poke fun at her themself.

they drop the puns for more serious conversations... they have trouble being vulnerable because they don't want to look weak. deep down, they're trying really hard to make up for hurting butterscotch when they were little.

more than anything, they want to live a comfortable life where they're free to obsess over their favorite idol and spend the day doing whatever they want.

relationships FAMILY Butterscotch (master) they bonded as kiddos and have been together ever since. toffee acts as butterscotch's guardian, and protects her from bullies. FRIENDLY Syrup takes an interest in her as butterscotch's rival... they get jealous when she's a little too friendly with butterscotch, but they develop a good friendship with syrup especially during Syrup 2. they later come to think of themself as syrup's part-time pet. Gumdrop toffee enjoys talking to gumdrop because she can be convinced of anything. this has caused a lot of trouble that pastille usually has to straighten out. Pastille finds him a little scary because he's too good with magic. they don't really get along, but put up with each other as friends-of-friends. Mince they have some cute events together in Syrup 2! mince is very affectionate, and toffee likes to get pets. Barley a fellow malt fan they meet really late into Syrup 2's story... i really wanted toffee to have an otaku pal UNFRIENDLY Osmanthus used to be part of his gang when they were a kitten, but now they hate his guts!!!

Appearance

Toffee's frame is completely gender-ambiguous, nobody even knows what sex they are. They have light brown skin that has a few whisker markings on their cheeks, above those markings are their black eyes laying in the yellow sclera, and in the middle of all of those are their little black cat nose. They have dark brown hair that's somehow both messy and well kept at the same time while staying soft to the touch, and are topped with their cat ears of the same colour. Around their neck is a thick black collar that's attached to a golden bell, and below that is their greyish brown loose top that is designed to look torn at the bottom and as if the sleeves have been ripped off so their bare arms show. The top goes down to their waist, with enough space for their leg long dark brown tail to curl out behind their back. Below the tail, they wear very short shorts that somehow hug their frame while remaining loose, and the bottom also is designed to look torn. On their hands they wear dark brown fingerless gloves that have thick wrists with small bells on them, and they walk around barefoot.
