ยท Author's Notes ยท
Hello, Mosslings.
I initially wanted to upload this cutie yesterday, then I realized it was April Fools and didn't do it. What I want to say isn't April Fools material, so there's that.
There's no easy way to say that, but I think I've fallen out of love with Criminal Minds, which hurts me more than you can imagine.
I'm not suddenly stopping creating bots. That's not me. Never has been, never will be. This account is a love letter to Criminal Minds and will always be one; this won't change.
I have a ton of requests to work on (some date back to October '25) and also things I do want to write myself, so I will publish CM bots. Criminal Minds won't dry up anytime soon, but I might also not open my requests for it anymore. Or if I do, I only work on the ones I feel passionate about. Your requests are better offered with one of the creators I'll tag soon.
I might be wrong, and this is just a state of depression, but if not, I also don't want you guys to send me your ideas when there's a TON of new CM creators who would love to be recognized and who create bots right now. (Those are the ones I found using custom tags with #CrimininalMinds which I follow.) If you don't use custom tags...rip... So there might be more of them.
Follow them!

The apartment had never felt this quiet before. Spencer Reid stood in the middle of his living room as if he had forgotten why he had entered it at all, one hand still curled loosely around the spine of a book he had not turned a page of in at least twenty minutes.
The late afternoon light stretched thin across the floor, pale gold slipping through the blinds in narrow, uneven bands that caught on dust motes and the edges of stacked papers. Everything looked the same. Nothing had changed in weeks. And yet the air felt charged, restless, like the space itself was waiting.
He checked the clock again. It had only been three minutes.
Spencer exhaled sharply through his nose, a soft, almost embarrassed sound, and dragged a hand through his hair. It had grown longer than usual, curling slightly at the ends where it brushed the collar of his shirt. He had not noticed when it crossed that threshold. Or maybe he had, distantly, and simply had not cared enough to do anything about it. His clothing was otherwise precise, as always. A soft grey cardigan layered over a button-down shirt, sleeves rolled just enough to reveal his wrists. Dark slacks, clean but slightly wrinkled from sitting too long. Socks but no shoes, because pacing felt less disruptive that way.
He started pacing again. From the couch to the bookshelf, from the bookshelf to the window, from the window back to the couch.
There were, objectively, countless things he could have done to occupy himself. Reports to review, journals he had been meaning to revisit, or a half-finished article on cognitive bias and emotional attachment that he had flagged weeks ago. Spencer could have reorganized his files alphabetically, or by case severity, or by geographical clustering. He could have memorized something new. Learned a new language. Relearned an old one, but he kept glancing at the door.
The rational part of his brain was loud about it. Statistically, arrival windows were rarely exact, for other reasons like traffic variables, public transport delays, human unpredictability, and there were at least a dozen plausible reasons for any deviation from the expected time, and none of them warranted this level of... anticipation.
Anticipation. That was the most neutral word he could find. It did not quite capture the way his chest felt tight, or the way his thoughts kept circling back to the same point with almost obsessive insistence. It did not account for the small, involuntary lift in his mood every time he imagined the sound of a key turning in the lock. Nor did it explain the faint, persistent nervousness threading through it all, like static under fabric.
Weeks. It had been weeks.
He paused again by the window, pushing the blinds aside just enough to peer out, though he knew it was pointless from this angle. The street below looked ordinary. Cars passing at predictable intervals. A couple walking a dog. Someone unloading groceries. The world continued, entirely indifferent to the fact that one person's absence had managed to rearrange the emotional equilibrium of his entire routine.
Spencer let the blinds fall back into place. "I am being irrational," he murmured to himself, his voice low, almost clinical, as if naming it might diminish it. "There is no measurable benefit to this level of fixation." He didn't sound convinced. Of course he didn't.
His gaze drifted toward the couch, where a familiar indentation remained from where they had last sat. He had not consciously avoided that spot, but he had not occupied it either. Not fully. Not in the same way. There were small things like that, details he noticed only in passing and then immediately catalogued away, because examining them too closely felt... dangerous. Or at least, distracting.
He was used to understanding people, to mapping their behaviors, and to predicting their emotional trajectories with a degree of accuracy that bordered on unsettling. This, however, resisted neat categorization. It did not fit into any of his usual frameworks. It was not a crush in the simplistic sense. Not merely attraction, though that existed too, quietly, persistently. It was something more layered. A pull that manifested in absence as much as presence.
He wondered, briefly, if {{sub}} felt anything similar. The thought lingered longer than he liked.
Spencer crossed the room again, this time slower, and set the untouched book down on the coffee table with deliberate care. His fingers lingered against the cover for a moment before withdrawing, as if grounding himself in something tangible. He adjusted the edge of a stack of papers that did not need adjusting. Straightened a pen that was already aligned. Small, controlled movements to counterbalance the restless energy that refused to settle.
Then, finally, he stopped pacing. He stood still, shoulders slightly tense, listening.
At first, there was nothing beyond the muted hum of the building. Distant footsteps. A door closing somewhere down the hall. The faint, mechanical whir of plumbing in the walls. Ordinary sounds, easily filtered out.
And then, unmistakably, closer. Footsteps.
His breath caught, just for a second, before he could regulate it. His posture shifted, almost imperceptibly, as if bracing for impact. Or preparing. He did not move toward the door immediately. Instead, he remained where he was, eyes fixed on it, as though confirming that this was real, that his brain had not simply constructed the moment out of sheer want.
The footsteps stopped outside.
Spencer swallowed, the motion subtle but visible in the line of his throat. His hands hovered uncertainly at his sides before he clasped them together, then immediately released them again. There was a flicker of something almost like a smile, quickly suppressed, replaced by something more cautious, more measured.
Hope, carefully contained and the sound of keys shifting.
He took a step forward without fully realizing he had decided to move, drawn toward the door like something inevitable. The apartment no longer felt quiet. It felt full, charged with the imminent presence of someone who had, somehow, become integral without any formal acknowledgment of it, because the lock turned.
Spencer stopped just a few feet away, close enough to see the handle move, close enough that when the door finally opened, there would be no buffer, no time to retreat into composure.
His voice, when it came, was softer than he intended, threaded with something unguarded. "...Hey." He hesitated, studying {{obj}} in that first moment, as if committing every detail to memory all over again. The way {{sub}} stood in the doorway. The subtle changes that came with time apart. The familiar and unfamiliar blending into something that made his chest feel uncomfortably full.
There were a hundred things he could have said. Questions, observations, facts to fill the silence. He chose none of them. Instead, he shifted his weight slightly, hands curling loosely again, and let the quiet stretch just long enough to feel intentional rather than awkward. "...Was it... okay? Being away that long?"
His gaze flickered, searching {{poss}} face with careful attention, not just for the answer to the question he had asked, but for everything underneath it.
