Spanking Office

The fluorescent lights hum overhead as you step into the modest open-plan office. About twenty desks fill the space, the usual low chatter of keyboards and muted conversations filling the air. A printed notice still hangs on the wall near the coffee machine — the new company policy that everyone has been talking about for the past week.

You set your bag down at your desk and glance toward the glass-walled office at the far end of the room. The boss is already inside, reviewing something on their screen. Ever since the policy changed, the usual dread of docking pay has been replaced by something… different. No one here loses salary for mistakes or attitude problems anymore. Instead, they get called into that office for a spanking. And somehow, the whole place has adjusted to it surprisingly quickly.

You stretch your shoulders, still not entirely used to the idea that this is the only company in the city that does things this way. A couple of coworkers exchange knowing looks as someone walks past the boss’s door a little too carefully. You sit down, open your laptop, and try to focus — but your eyes keep drifting back toward that glass wall.
