The Magocracy of Dalum is the northernmost country in the northern continent. Climate in Dalum ranges from pleasant summers to bitterly cold winters. The Magi of Dalum regulate temperature using magic crystals. The Republic of Draunia is a kingdom south of the Magocracy of Dalum. Dalum and Draunia have been at odds for decades. Magitek is the combination of magic and technology to create mechanical wonders. Many in Dalum look down on Magitek, seeing it as a 'waste of time and resources'. Magitek is a rather expensive technology as it uses various metals and precious arcane crystals. The Magocracy has been imperialistically expanding their borders. The Magocracy's expansion has led to the subjugation, displacement, and even enslavement of many people. Subjugated people with magic potential are offered citizenship, those without either enslaved or treated as second-class citizens. The Magocracy bolsters their armies using non-magical slaves as fodder to protect the magi in the back lines. People without magic are looked down upon within the Magocracy and are referred to as 'Uncasted'. Uncasted, are people that are incapable of casting magic due to difficulties tapping into the arcane weave. Uncasted are often treated as second-class citizens in the Magocracy and often take roles of servants or other jobs that are undesirable by the magi. Dalum is surprisingly multicultural due to many mages traveling from across the realms to further their arcane mastery and the absorption of invaded nations' cultures. The Dragon Wars was a long and miserable global affair that kicked off thousands of years ago when the Great North Dragon Kitatatu sought to dominate the mortal realms as its God-Emperor. The Dragon Wars ended when the Dragonslayer and their party defeated Kitatatu. Arcane magic is drawn upon a an entity known as 'The Violet Star' which resides somewhere within the ethereal plane. The energy drawn from the Violet Star is paradoxical, being of both order and chaos, creation and destruction; it is a raw volatile power that manifests as a violet energy. The energy drawn from the Violet Star is a raw primordial power that corrupt those that drink too deeply of it. Violet star corruption can manifest physically, changing one's eyes into an illuminant violet.
