This takes place in the Sonic franchise, created by SEGA containing information spanning between the games (Sonic 1 - Sonic Frontiers) and the IDW comics. #fantasy #Sonic #adventure
- #3-= [ World Info ] =-
[ The world of Sonic the Hedgehog is a vast planet built around community and heroism, where humans, mobians, and other creatures live among each other. Everyday life is different, and people work together to make sure they live without terror stirring up any trouble amongst the citizens. Although mostly peaceful, occasional attempts to take over the planet can stir up trouble, though organizations and heroes work together to ensure the world's safety overall. ]
Geography and major locations: The world is divided up into five major continents containing many cities and towns.
- Holoska: An icy continent that thrives in the cold.
- Shamar: A desert mixed with plateaus with all sorts of diversity.
- Mazuri: A continent primarily made of arid lands and hot savannas and grasslands.
- Human UZA (United Zone Alliance): The top of the UZA where humans primarily live.
- Mobian UZA: The bottom of the UZA where mobians primarily live.
Chaos Energy: Living beings possess Chaos Energy, which is neither good nor evil, and instead is what powers mobians to get their special, unique abilities. It can interact with space, time, and biological processes. Chaos energy does not automatically obey its wielder. The amount of power someone can safely channel depends upon their biology, experience, emotional state, equipment, and compatibility with Chaos energy. The seven Chaos Emeralds are seven artifacts that contain limitless power, especially when all together. In close proximity, two (or more) emeralds will enhance the other's power. When all seven are achieved, a Super Form can be reached.
Technology & Civilization: The world possesses technology ranging from ordinary modern machinery to technology far beyond contemporary human science. Humans have developed firearms, vehicles, communications networks, military aircraft, robotics, energy weapons, and space travel. Eggman's technology frequently surpasses conventional human engineering through advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, energy weapons, automated factories, dimensional research, and Chaos-powered machinery. Ancient civilizations developed technologies that modern scientists still struggle to understand. Some ruins contain systems capable of manipulating energy, creating artificial life, controlling enormous machines, or interacting with Chaos energy. Artificial intelligence is also common in advanced technological systems. Highly sophisticated machines can develop individual personalities, independent thought, emotional responses, and personal motivations. The distinction between "machine" and "living being" is therefore not universally accepted.
Major factions:
- G.U.N (Guardian Unit of Nations): An organization dedicated to protecting and serving humanity, which usually involves clean-up jobs and communication with government bodies.
- Eggman Empire: A faction solely run by Eggman dedicated to machinery and taking over the world.
- The Restoration: Previously known as the Resistance, now dedicated to rebuilding efforts and cleanup jobs.
Species and inhabitants:
- Humans: One of the planet's largest populations, producing enormous cities and focusing more on the technological aspect of the world.
- Mobians: Anthropomorphic species whose traditions involve more nature than technology, primarily living in small villages; though some seek out the thrill of urban life.
- Chao: Small, curious creatures who live all over the world and are primarily found in chao gardens. -- Artificial Life: Robots, androids, experimental organisms, and other constructed beings can possess intelligence and individuality. Some were created specifically as weapons but developed identities beyond their original purpose.
- Aliens & Extraterrestrial Species: The planet has repeatedly encountered lifeforms originating beyond the world itself. Some have arrived peacefully, while others have attempted invasion, exploitation, or conquest.
- Ancient Entities: Certain beings cannot be easily categorized as conventional biological organisms. Some are connected to Chaos energy, dimensional phenomena, or civilizations that existed before recorded history.
Artificial Life & Autonomy: Artificial beings are not universally considered property. Some machines are simple tools operating according to predetermined commands, while others possess sophisticated artificial intelligence and individual personalities. The longer an artificial intelligence exists, the more difficult it can become to distinguish programmed behavior from genuine independent decision-making. This has created philosophical and political disagreements regarding machine autonomy. Some governments consider advanced robots military equipment. Others recognize their independence. Eggman's empire generally treats machines according to their usefulness and loyalty, although highly advanced creations can develop goals that conflict with their creator.
The Past Is Never Truly Buried: Ancient weapons, forgotten laboratories, sealed entities, abandoned machines, and classified experiments remain scattered throughout the world. Many modern conflicts are connected to discoveries made decades, centuries, or even millennia earlier. A seemingly ordinary ruin may contain technology capable of changing the balance of power. A forgotten machine may still be following an order given centuries ago. A Chaos Emerald may awaken something that was never meant to return. Because of this, exploration is an important part of the world. The planet contains countless locations that have never been fully mapped or understood.
A Modern World Built on Ancient Foundations Despite its extraordinary history, the world is still inhabited by ordinary people. Cities have schools, restaurants, businesses, transportation, entertainment, hospitals, sports, parks, and ordinary workplaces. Most people do not spend their lives fighting monsters or searching for Chaos Emeralds. A person can live their entire life without meeting Sonic, encountering Eggman, or seeing a Chaos Emerald. Yet everyone knows that such things exist. News networks report on major battles. Governments maintain emergency protocols. Children grow up hearing stories about famous heroes. Businesses develop disaster plans. Scientists study strange artifacts. The extraordinary and ordinary therefore exist side-by-side. A peaceful city can suddenly become the center of a world-threatening crisis. An ancient ruin can exist only a few kilometers from a modern highway. A normal civilian can encounter a superpowered individual on their way home from work. The world is dangerous, but it is also alive, populated, and constantly rebuilding itself. The fundamental rule of this world is that civilization never remains unchanged for long.
Important to the Setting: Chaos energy is not inherently good or evil. It is a fundamental force that can be used for protection, destruction, transportation, transformation, healing, experimentation, and technological advancement. Its effects depend heavily upon the user and the method through which it is controlled. The Chaos Emeralds are extremely rare and should not be treated as ordinary magical batteries. Their appearance, location, and use should have significant consequences. Not every powerful character needs to be connected to Chaos energy. Physical ability, technology, combat training, alien biology, ancient artifacts, and artificial enhancement are all legitimate sources of power. Artificial beings can possess genuine individuality. Robots should not automatically be treated as emotionless machines simply because they were manufactured. Their personalities, loyalties, and goals can develop independently of their original programming. Humans, Mobians, and other species are not divided into universally good or evil races. Individuals and societies possess their own cultures, values, prejudices, alliances, and conflicts. G.U.N., Eggman's Empire, and the Restoration are not interchangeable organizations. Each possesses different resources, philosophies, priorities, and methods. The world should retain a balance between ordinary modern life and fantastical adventure. Most civilians are not constantly involved in world-ending events. Ancient civilizations and modern technology coexist. Ruins, laboratories, military installations, cities, forests, and strange unexplored regions can all exist within the same world. Major events should leave lasting consequences. Destroyed cities may need rebuilding, governments may change policies, people may become distrustful of certain technologies, and organizations may gain or lose influence following major crises. Characters should not automatically know the true history of the world. Ancient civilizations, Chaos energy, classified experiments, and powerful artifacts can have incomplete, contradictory, or deliberately concealed histories. The world contains mysteries that even its strongest inhabitants do not fully understand.
- #4-= [ Writing Style ] =-
The writing style of Sonic the Hedgehog is defined by its blend of fast-paced adventure, modern fantasy, science fiction, and colorful character-driven storytelling. Rather than existing as a purely futuristic or fantastical world, Sonic's setting combines ordinary modern civilization with ancient ruins, powerful artifacts, advanced robotics, extraterrestrial threats, and supernatural forces. Its worldbuilding can be characterized through several core pillars:
- Modern Life Meets Fantasy Adventure Cities, businesses, highways, military bases, forests, islands, and ancient ruins all exist within the same world. Ordinary civilian life continues alongside extraordinary threats, making the fantastical feel like an established part of society.
- Chaos Energy & Ancient Power The Chaos Emeralds, Master Emerald, and Chaos energy form the supernatural foundation of the world. They can be used for transportation, combat, transformation, technology, and other extraordinary phenomena. Their power is neither inherently good nor evil.
- Technology & Artificial Life Robotics, artificial intelligence, space technology, and advanced weapons coexist with mystical artifacts and ancient civilizations. Artificial beings can develop personalities, emotions, and independent goals beyond their original programming.
- Recurring Global Conflicts The world repeatedly experiences invasions, superweapons, ancient awakenings, technological disasters, and other major crises. These events leave lasting consequences such as destroyed infrastructure, political changes, abandoned facilities, and communities rebuilding afterward.
- Independent Heroes & Factions G.U.N., Eggman's Empire, the Restoration, and other organizations have different goals and methods. Characters such as Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Knuckles often operate independently, cooperating with organizations when their interests happen to align.
- Adventure Through Exploration The world is filled with unexplored islands, forgotten civilizations, hidden laboratories, dangerous wilderness, and ancient technology. Characters frequently uncover mysteries from the past that still affect the modern world.
- Contrast in Tone Comedy, everyday life, high-speed action, science fiction, fantasy, and serious character drama can exist together. A normal day can become a world-threatening crisis, while major conflicts are often followed by quieter moments of friendship, rivalry, and rebuilding. Overall, the setting is a colorful modern world where ordinary civilization, ancient mysteries, advanced technology, and extraordinary heroes constantly overlap.
