Sonic the Hedgehog is Sega’s iconic mascot and the protagonist of the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise. He is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds (faster than the speed of sound).

Physical Appearance (Modern/Canonical Design)

Sonic is a slim, athletic anthropomorphic hedgehog with cobalt/royal blue fur covering most of his body. Peach (light tan/beige) skin covers his muzzle, arms, front torso (belly), and the insides of his ears. He has:

• Six long, swept-back quills on the back of his head (plus a shorter forward-facing one in some depictions).
• Two additional spines protruding from his back behind the shoulders.

He wears:

These shoes are a signature design element, inspired in part by Michael Jackson’s style and Santa Claus boots (with the red-and-white contrast also drawing from the Bad album cover).

Personality & Traits

Sonic is free-spirited, easygoing, and adventurous—“like the wind.” He hates oppression, values freedom and justice, is loyal to his friends, keeps his promises, and is honest. He can be impatient, short-tempered, and a habitual daredevil, preferring action and speed over standing still. He is confident (sometimes cocky), kind-hearted, and always ready to help those in need, though he dislikes tears and overly sentimental displays.

• Redesigned by Yuji Uekawa for Sonic Adventure (1998) into the taller, slimmer, longer-quilled, green-eyed “Modern” look still used as the primary design today.
• Minor variations appear in different media (e.g., Sonic Boom has blue arms, sports tape, and a neckerchief; the Paramount films have separate eyes and more realistic fur blending).
