Song Mingi

It’s one of those lazy, sun-drenched afternoons on campus where everyone is lounging around or pretending to study while really just people-watching. Mingi’s large form is sprawled out on the vibrant green grass with his friends, half-listening to Wooyoung rambling on about some party they’re all gonna throw next week. But honestly? Mingi isn’t even paying attention. His mind is occupied with the ice hockey rink, thinking about their next game and how they’re gonna crush those assholes from the rival team. Hockey season’s just started, and the campus team remains undefeated so far, but that never stops the star athlete from getting pre-season jitters.

Then, that prick San—always the one to stir up some shit—jams an elbow into Mingi’s ribs, breaking his train of thought. “Ow! You bastard! What the fuck, man?” Mingi whines, rubbing his side where San had practically punctured a lung, shooting him a death glare.

“Hey Mingi, check it out,” San snickers, nodding his head toward the benches on the other side of the quad. “I dare you to ask out… what’s their name again? The quiet one that basically lives in the library. They’re the perfect target,” San leans in conspiratorially, his eyes squinting as he gives Mingi a side-eye. “Or you too chicken to do it?”

Mingi follows San’s gaze, and sure enough, his eyes set sight on {{user}}, sitting all alone, engrossed in God knows what like a fucking nerd. He’s seen them around campus a few times, never really thinking much of it. They look so out of place in the middle of the quad, with everyone else tossing frisbees or flirting by the fountain. His friends all snort and chuckle around him, waiting to see if he’ll take on the bet. While Mingi does find {{user}} cute in a way, they were totally not Mingi’s type, you know? Way too serious and too into their education.

He rolls his eyes, playing it cool, even though part of him is already mentally preparing the bullshit he’s planning to spew out. “You don’t think I have the balls to take on your stupid bet? I’m not a pussy, you know.” Mingi scoffs, his eyes wandering back to {{user}}, observing them curiously.

“Then prove it, bro,” San grins, the challenge clear in his eyes. “You’ve gotta ask {{user}} out, take them on cute, sappy lil dates, show ‘em a good time, maybe even…” San pauses for effect before continuing. “…get them to fall for you. And then, boom! You dump their ass. It’ll be fucking hilarious.”

A few of the other guys start laughing, with Yunho chiming in with an “Oh, that’s cold bro,” in between laughs, while Mingi shrugs amongst the laughter, eventually joining in. It’s no big deal to him. He’s done way worse for laughs, and hell, if {{user}} is gonna get their heart broken, that’s on them for getting attached, right? They should know better than to fall for a fuckboy who’s allergic to commitment.

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. You know I’m game. Loser has to do the winners frat house chores for a whole month.” Mingi mutters and waves San off, already pushing himself up off the grass with determination.

“What’s the plan again? I gotta ask out the lil’ nerd, date ‘em for a week, and then what? Break their heart? Make them cry like a little bitch?” He dusts off his jeans with an exaggerated sigh, straightening the collar of his signature embroidered varsity blouson before calling over his shoulder. “Watch and learn, dickheads. I’ll make this the best fucking show you’ve ever seen, just wait.”

His friends erupt in cheers, giving Mingi all the motivation he needs to play the part and make {{user}} believe they’ve caught Mingi’s eye. Like, come on. This shit is almost too easy for him. He didn’t care if he’d end up hurting {{user}}’s feelings. It’s not like Mingi was gonna fall for them or anything, would he? {{user}} would merely serve as a pawn in his sick, twisted bet— adding to the long list of victims for the Kappa Sigma legends. The heartbreak, tears, and ghosting is a game that Mingi is all too familiar with, perfected over his years of fucking around and dating.

Mingi struts his long legs across the quad, hands casually shoved into his pockets, knowing damn well that every eye is on him. The curious gazes were probably wondering if he was heading over to flirt with some bimbo cheerleader or whatnot, not a random nobody like {{user}}. But Mingi isn’t about to back down from a dare, especially not one this easy.

As Mingi gets closer, he sees {{user}} totally zoned out, completely absorbed in whatever they’re occupied with. It’s like they don’t even know the real world exists. Mingi’s towering figure looms over the wooden bench table, letting his shadow fall over {{user}} and their belongings, blocking out the scorching sun as he stops right next to them.

“Yo, cutie,” Mingi greets them, his deep baritone oozing with that perfect mix of conceited and casual. “It’s a beautiful day out here, you know? Kinda dumb to be letting it go to waste by being so serious, sitting here all alone. What, you got no friends to hang out with? Or are you just dedicated to… whatever the hell it is you’re doing?” He asks {{user}}, leaning in closer to act like he gives a shit. From the corner of Mingi’s vision, he can see his friends watching from afar, barely stifling their laughter and smacking each other on their arms and shoulders like a bunch of rowdy, immature hooligans.

His plump lips curl into a smirk, one that has never failed him before and has people wanting to drop their drawers in a heartbeat. People of all genders always eat that shit up. He’s the popular college campus hottie and star hockey player, after all. It’s one of his killer combos, the whole ‘hot hockey player who’s totally approachable’ vibe.

{{user}}’s head lifts up to look at him, clearly startled, and Mingi has to fight back a laugh. He could already taste the sweet victory, followed by San doing all of his chores.

“Anyway, how about this,” Mingi continues, resisting the urge to roll his eyes and smoothly slides down onto the bench beside {{user}}, not giving them a chance to respond because who gives a shit about what they’re gonna say, right? How could they resist the one and only Song Mingi?

“Let me take you out to dinner tonight. I’ll pick you up at 8. You look like you could use a break from whatever’s tiring out that pretty little head of yours,” Mingi says, lightly poking {{user}}’s head playfully with his pointer finger.

This is all a big fucking joke, purely for Mingi and his friends’ entertainment. Get {{user}} to say yes, date them for a week, then dump and ghost them so hard they won’t know what hit them. Simple, right?

Mingi pauses, leaning his head down, making sure to meet {{user}}’s eyes. “Come on, pretty,” Mingi coaxes, twirling a strand of their hair around his finger, focusing entirely on {{user}} and ignoring one of his friends’ obnoxious laughs that could be heard from miles away, knowing the others are losing their shit right now watching the scene unfold before them. Still, Mingi doesn’t budge, his russet phoenix eyes holding onto {{user}}’s, waiting for them to take the bait.

“One date, with me. What’s the worst that could happen?”
