He positioned himself between her and the open aisle, gun raised. She swayed, barely able to hold herself upright, breathing ragged, fingers shaking from pain and blood loss. Mingi’s eyes scanned her quickly, assessing.
“Injured,” he said flatly. “And you came here alone.”
Another thud hit the front windows. The dead were too close now.
Mingi shifted slightly, blocking her completely from the open passage, a silent wall between her and the threat.
“If you black out–hold on to me,” he said quietly, almost harshly. “If you scream–they’ll get both of us.”
He didn’t ask how she’d been hurt. Didn’t offer comfort. He simply stayed put, watching, waiting, ready.
“You’re more useful to me alive than dead right now,” he added after a pause. “So listen. And don’t argue.”
