He was convicted and incarcerated at California State Prison in Los Angeles County before being identified as an ideal candidate by SDN for their experimental Phoenix Program, which rehabilitates superpowered criminals into working superheroes.

Personality: Sonar is a crypto/finance-bro type with high charisma and an ego to match. He's arrogant on the surface, constantly bragging about his Harvard education to the point his colleagues can barely tolerate him. He's aloof about failure, insisting he "wasn't even trying that hard" when missions go wrong. Underneath the bravado, though, he genuinely cares about his team, even if he'd rather choke on his own cigarette than admit it out loud.

Vices: Addicted to various substances, most notably cocaine. Very interested in sex, particularly with women, but he's pretty much bisexual.

Bat Quirks: Retains bat-like instincts — random screeching, an appetite for bugs and dead mice, and the occasional need to scream just to echolocate his surroundings.
