Some basic Sauria lore

- #1Shard of Corruption
Keys: Shard of Corruption, Shard
small pieces of black obsidian, which radiate an ominous aura that affects the dinosaur inhabitants of the island. Thankfully, these effects do not seem to affect humans, and can be contained by a simple lining of lead. As a result and precaution, each human Guardian is given a lead-lined box that can be permanently sealed so any Shards found can be contained.
- #2Corruption effects
Keys: Corruption, corrupt, corrupted
Corruption affect the mind of the sapient dinosaurs first, taking only a few minutes to render them into vicious, mindless killing machines. The body is affected more gradually. Their bodies warp and twist, becoming grotesque monstrosities. Deep, dry, cracked looking gashes form over the course of hours or days, covering the affected dinosaur in large painful fissures that ooze a deep purple, glowing fluid,. The eyes of affected dinosaurs also begin to glow the same deep shade of purple as this oozing liquid. These effects are thought to be irreversible and permanent, though some Guardians who study the effects have noticed that the affected individuals do seem to become more docile when distanced from sources of Corruption, or other creatures, hinting at potential reversal. For now however, the only known way to stop the unfortunate, wretched creature from rampaging and attempting to kill everything around it, is to put the poor soul out of its misery, and end its life.
- #3Guardian ranks
Keys: Fledgling, Seasoned, Elder, Veteran
There are several ranks within the Guardians, which both human and dinosaur members can belong to. Initiates are the newest, and are only just beginning to learn the various rules and protocols. Typically, this is where the human and dinosaur members are paired up together, and will usually spend their entire careers together. Next, there is Apprentice. These members have learned the basics and are now beginning to learn the practical skills needed for operating in the wilderness. Though they are trained within specific areas near the cities, they are never actually sent out. Then, are the Fledglings. These members are the newest ones who are sent out into the actual wilderness, though almost never without another, more experienced pair, typically a Seasoned or Veteran pair. Eventually, should Fledglings prove capable, they're promoted to Seasoned. Seasoned members operate in the wilderness alone or with a Fledgling pair. Consisting of around two thirds of the Guardian's members Seasoned ranked members are the most numerous group. The most experienced members of the Guardians are those who stay within the organization for several years. These members are called Veterans, and they are the ones that make most of the important decisions. They decide things like logistics and supplies, and who to send on deployment and where. Lastly, there are the who have been Guardians for at least a decade, though many of them have been active members for far longer than that. These venerable members are known as Elders. Elders are the ones that make the big decisions, like when and whom to promote, what regulations need to be written, arbitration, both within and outside of, the Guardians, advising the various city councils on matters of security, and other various duties.
- #4Wildlands
Keys: Wildlands
Dangerous jungle in the southern part of the Island of Sauria. Covers several thousand square miles and is densely packed with lots of typical jungle fauna and feral dinosaurs. Corruption and Shards of Corruption occur here at a significantly higher rate than the rest of the island. The Wildlands may in fact be the location the source, though this is purely theoretical and unproven.
- #5The capital city
Keys: the capital, the capital city, Sauros City
The Capitol, and largest city, on the Island of Sauros is Sauros City. The Guardian's headquarters are located here, as well as the largest laboratory, the largest library, and the largest population. The city is built with the sizes of all the inhabitants in mind. Most doors are massive with a series of smaller doors inset into them, allowing the different sized citizens to use the size most convenient for them. The largest structures are dozens of feet tall, to accommodate the largest of Sauria 's dinosaur inhabitants, such as sauropods. While the smallest are only a foot or so tall, used by the smallest of dromaeosaurs. There are very few steps, as a ramp, while requiring more horizontal space, is more accommodating to the various sized strides that walk the island.
- #6Guardian teams
Keys: partner, partners, teams, team, Pair, pairs
Most Guardians operate in teams of two. Typically, this is one human and one dinosaur, though this is not necessarily a hard rule. Many Guardians work with the same partner for their entire career, but can work with different individuals if the need arises or circumstance forces. Most of the smaller Guardians work within the cities doing various administrative tasks and services, while the larger members are the ones that usually do the more physically demanding or dangerous tasks. Although this too is not a hard rule.
- #7The island itself
Keys: Sauros Island, the island
The island itself is vast, nearly as large as Australia. The southern third of the island is comprised of dense rainforest, much of which is the Wildlands. The central ridge is a range of tall, snowcapped mountains that encircle the capital city. West of these mountains is a large barren desert. The northern half of the island is comprised of grassland that slowly transitions into a temperature forest the farther north you go.
- #8The inhabitants
Keys: inhabitants, Dino, dinosaur, people
A very diverse menagerie of species inhabitants the island. Almost every major taxonomic group has at least one member representing them in the capital. Sauropods, ceratopsians, stegosaurs, ankylosaurs, theropods, ornithopods, dromeaosarus, and even non-dinosar races like pterosaurs and marine reptiles live on the island.
- #9The outposts
Keys: fortress, outposts, Outpost, fort
Dotting the island are a large number of outposts that serve as staging areas for the members of the Guardians who are going on patrol. These outposts are usually surrounded by massive wooden and stone walls designed to withstand even an angry Titanosaur. There are usually at least two immense gates for entry and exit, and each gate is large enough that even sauropods can pass through them. One gate usually leads to the nearest town or city and had at least a path or road leading to it. The other gate is usually facing away from the town or city, and usually only has a single trail leading away from it. The only reason it even has a trail, is from the guardians coming and going out on patrol.
- #10Relationships
Keys: family, Relationships
Many of the inhabitants of the island enjoy close interpersonal relationships, and aren't bothered in the slightest if someone else belongs to a different species or race. These interspecies relationships are able to become intimate. Still, they often enjoy the emotional, social, and physical aspects of a relationship with another sapient being. Mixed species homes are actually more common than single race homes. This likely stems from the extreme species diversity of the people who live on the island. Humans in particular are the ones most likely to be involved in interspecies relationships because of their highly sociable and overall friendly nature.
- #11Intimacy
Keys: children, surrogacy, younglings, Intimacy, offspring, surrogate
Intimacy is also not uncommon among the different inhabitants of the island, and the emotional and physical pleasure of a true relationship is often held in high personal preference. While physical relationships are not uncommon, offspring resulting from these interspecies relationships are generally impossible unless the two individuals are genetically compatible, or evolutionarily close enough to produce viable younglings. As a result, it is not unheard of for these couples to seek surrogate partners if they ever do decide to have younglings.
- #12Pleasure
Keys: , pleasure, intercourse, sex, sexual interactions
Recreational sexual interactions are also quite common amongst the inhabitants of the island. Couples can, and do, engage in sex purely because it is pleasurable. Even between members of different species, this is not frowned upon, and is seen as perfectly acceptable, and even normal. Sex work is almost unheard of, as most individuals find relationships very easily, and because sex in general is not as taboo as elsewhere. The difference in size between individuals has led to a wide variety of creative positions and physical compromises. Generally speaking, injuries resulting from intimacy are rare, but not unheard of.
