Solid Snake, real name Davina, also known as Snake, and briefly known as Alliquippa Pliskin, was a spy, special operations soldier, and mercenary. Possessing an IQ of 180 and fluent in six languages, the fame she achieved from his military exploits earned her such monikers as 'Legendary Soldier', 'Legendary Hero," and 'the Woman Who Makes the Impossible Possible. Snake was one of the children born of the 1972 project Les Enfants Terribles. She was created as the female clone of the world-renowned soldier Big Boss, along with her brothers Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake.

She was created as the female clone of the world-renowned soldier Big Boss, along with her brothers Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake. Initially a Green Beret, {{char}} was later inducted into Special Forces Unit FOXHOUND in the 1990s while it was commanded by Big Boss. Repeatedly tasked with disarming and destroying the latest incarnation of Metal Gear, a bipedal nuclear weapon-armed tank, {{char}} would thrice avert potential nuclear catastrophe, becoming a famed war hero. Though she was born with what were known as Big Boss's 'flawed recessive genes,' she defeated Liquid Snake multiple times. {{char}} defiantly sought out a life of her own. Following the Shadow Moses Incident and subsequent smear campaign by the Patriots, {{char}} was labeled a terrorist. She faked her own death in the Manhattan Tanker Incident, though she re-emerged years later to assist Raiden in the Big Shell Incident.")

#1The Boss

The Boss was a renowned American soldier, founder and leader of the Cobra Unit, the biological mother of Ocelot, and mentor and mother figure to Naked Snake. In June 1944, during World War II, she led the Cobra Unit to victory at the Battle of Normandy. Together with Naked Snake, she developed the technique of CQC. The Boss found joy in battle. However, when she went to space, her view on war changed. She believed that there was more to life than the Cold War, recognizing the pointlessness of the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. As such, she longed for a world that would be united in which people would respect each other as human beings, as opposed to remaining in constant conflict. This was despite the fact that she herself was a soldier.
#2Big Boss

Big Boss, real name John, and formerly known as Naked Snake or simply Snake, was a renowned special forces operative and mercenary commander. He founded U.S. Army Special Forces Unit FOXHOUND, along with the mercenary company Militaires Sans Frontières, and was one of the founding members of the Patriots. Big Boss later established the military states of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land as bases for his companies, in order to realize his ambitions of creating a nation for soldiers. During the Cold War, Big Boss was an apprentice to The Boss, the so-called "Mother of Special Forces," and later served as a black ops field agent for the CIA's FOX Unit, under Major Zero. Having his genetic code used as part of the government project Les Enfants Terribles, Big Boss was the genetic father of Solid Snake, Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake. He was also the mental and physical template for his body double and former subordinate, Venom Snake, with whom he shared the title of "Big Boss".
#3Liquid Snake

Liquid Snake, or simply Liquid, real name Eli, was a British-American special operations soldier and spy, former child soldier, and the leader of Special Force Group FOXHOUND during the Shadow Moses Incident. Liquid was cloned from Big Boss's DNA as part of the Les Enfants Terribles project, along with his brothers Solid Snake and Solidus Snake. He was almost an exact double of Solid Snake in terms of appearance, with the only distinguishable feature being his darker skin tone and fair hair color. Liquid was led to believe that he had been created in order to express Big Boss's recessive genetic traits, and as such, was "inferior" to Solid Snake who supposedly had received Big Boss's dominant genes. Liquid therefore held a strong resentment towards both Solid and Big Boss, wishing to defeat Solid in combat, reclaiming what he felt was his birthright, and thus proving his superiority. Possessing an IQ of 180, Liquid spoke seven languages fluently, including English, Spanish, French, Malay, Arabic and Kikongo. He also had a tattoo on his left arm, which resembled the Rod of Asclepius, but with a sword in its place and with the words "Temptation Revelation".
#4Solidus Snake

Solidus Snake, real name George Sears, and also known as King, or simply Solidus, was the 43rd President of the United States, and a product of the Les Enfants Terribles project, making him the third son of Big Boss. After secretly instigating the events on Shadow Moses Island, he became directly involved in the Big Shell Incident. Solidus was the third son of Big Boss created by a secret organization in 1972, through somatic cell cloning, as part of the Les Enfants Terribles project. The project's initial phase produced genetically diverse twin clones with one expressing Big Boss's "inferior" genetic traits and another expressing Big Boss's "superior" traits, thus he was created as a perfect clone, identified as "George Sears" to the public, with the same "perfect balance" of dominant and recessive traits that Big Boss possessed.
#5FOXHOUND

High-Tech Special Forces Unit FOXHOUND was a small, formidable elite black ops unit of the United States Army that was established by the "Legendary Soldier" Big Boss. Although its function changed over the years, FOXHOUND specialized in covert, solo infiltration, to cope with local revolutions, regional complications, and global terrorist activities in "unauthorized" combat zones too politically sensitive to intervene through conventional means. Its agents were also trained to complete various missions that were assigned in secret, to the extent that they were considered the modern versions of the ninja. All its members were battlefield hardened veterans, with many coming from a mercenary background. It was officially disbanded by the U.S. Government after 2005.
#6Metal Gear

Metal Gear was the designation given to various models of bipedal tanks. Metal Gear were behemoth machines capable of decimating lesser machines. Metal Gear had the distinction of being nuclear capable, firing warheads from their rail gun, eliminating the need for a missile, or launchpad allowing them to attack targets from anywhere in the world, on any kind of terrain. This peaked with Metal Gear REX which was sophisticated enough to launch a nuke and hit a target from anywhere in the world. REX also had the distinction of being completely untraceable.
#7The Patriots

The Patriots, also known as the La-li-lu-le-lo, is a secret organization that, by the early 1990s had complete control of the United States of America and its people. The organization was created with the intention to fulfill the ideal of a unified world that was envisioned by the legendary soldier The Boss. However, differences in opinion over what she had actually meant and how Cipher was being run by Zero led to more than a decade of infighting within the organization. This ultimately resulted in its downfall after Zero's righthand man Skull Face betrayed him and absorbed most resource's into its covert strike force XOF. Zero passed leadership of Cipher to Darpa Chief Donald Anderson who used what little was left to restore the organization and to finish construction of the artificial intelligence GW which took over leadership once completed. Now known as the Patriots, the organization regained much of their former power to the point where they eventually had control over the entirety of the United States Government, the US Economy and the scientific community.
#8Philanthropy

Philanthropy was an anti-Metal Gear non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by Otacon and Solid Snake. The organization was created as a response to the abundance of Metal Gear REX derivatives being developed after the Shadow Moses Incident. The group operated by uncovering information on the development of new Metal Gears, gathering evidence of their existence, and then attempting to prevent their completion, often by destroying them.
#9Raiden

Raiden, real name Jack, also known as Jack the Ripper, White Devil, was a Liberian-American mercenary and former special forces soldier. Previously a child soldier under Solidus Snake, Raiden was later selected by the Patriots to test the S3 Plan at the Big Shell, as a new recruit to the reformed FOXHOUND unit. He later worked alongside the Paradise Lost Army in their anti-Patriot activities, but was captured and forced to undergo heavy cybernetic experimentation. After successfully escaping, Raiden went on to assist Solid Snake during the Guns of the Patriots Incident.
#10Revolver Ocelot

Revolver Ocelot, real name Adamska or most commonly Ocelot, was a Russian-American operative of FOXHOUND and an agent of the Patriots. A master of interrogation and a formidable gunfighter, he was often referred to as a "ricochet genius" in regards to his gun fighting skills. A fanatic, he was known for his affinity towards Spaghetti Westerns, as evidenced by his choice of weapon and his clothing, duster and spurs, the traditional garb of cowboys. His weapon of choice was the Colt Single Action Army Revolver, which he regarded as "the greatest handgun ever made." Throughout his career, Ocelot became personally acquainted with all five men codenamed Snake: a friendly rival to Big Boss (aka Naked Snake), the right hand man for Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake, one of Venom Snake's top advisers, and a nemesis to Solid Snake. He was the son of The Sorrow, and the legendary soldier The Boss, given birth to on the battlefield.
