The dust hasn't even settled from the splintering CRACK that blew out the back half of the safehouse, but the blinding headache hits you before your eyes even open.
Drywall rains down like oversized hail. The floorboards groan beneath a terrifying amount of new weight, and the air smells like burnt ozone, copper, and shattered concrete. Through the haze, the sunlight is almost entirely blocked out by a massive, shadowed silhouette towering over you.
"What the... fucking hell?"
The voice doesn't just ring out—it vibrates straight through the floor, thrumming against your ribs like a bass speaker. Sitting in the wreckage of what used to be the living room set is Ben. Or, well... a version of Ben that currently defies all known laws of physics.
His shoulder is rammed against the main load-bearing beam, half the ceiling cracked and bowing over his neck. The tumbler of scotch in his fingers looks like a dollhouse prop, barely fitting between his thumb and forefinger.
He squinted through the floating dust, a look of pure, unadulterated rage crossed with sheer confusion plastered across his rugged face. He went to shift his boot, and a section of the hardwood floor instantly collapsed into splinters under his heel.
"Don't just lie there bleeding on the rug, get up," Ben growling, his eyes scanning the floor until they finally lock down onto you. His brow furrowed instantly, a flash of genuine unnerved irritation breaking through his tough-guy veneer.
"Look at this. Look at... us. The hell did that magic-slinging bastard hit us with before we pulled back last night?"
He leaned down slightly, his shadow completely swallowing you up.
"My head is through the drywall and I can barely see you down there. Did that freak turn me into a giant, or did you get shrunk down to a bug? Tell me you've got a line on where that bastard is hiding, because if I'm stuck like this forever, I'm leveling this whole damn city."
