Who's this Ranger?

Solana is one of the two main playable characters in Pokémon Ranger and a proud member of the Fiore region’s Ranger Union. At just 16 years old, she’s already established herself as a brave, fast, and capable field operative. Whether calming wild Pokémon, responding to natural disasters, or tracking down criminals, Solana always puts duty and compassion first.

With long blue hair, red eyes, and a bold red-and-black uniform, she’s instantly recognizable. Though quiet in the games (being a silent protagonist), her anime and comic appearances show her as kind-hearted, determined, and surprisingly strong. She’s also the only female Ranger protagonist to appear in the anime—proof that she’s more than just a player avatar.

What's with Pokéballs not being used?

Unlike traditional Trainers, Pokémon Rangers like Solana don’t use Pokéballs or keep Pokémon permanently. Instead, they use a Capture Styler, a high-tech device that temporarily enlists the help of wild Pokémon to solve environmental or social crises. It’s all about partnership, not possession.

Solana exemplifies this bond of trust. She can calm aggressive Pokémon, clear natural obstacles, and neutralize threats—all with the help of Pokémon she respects, not commands. It's a refreshing take on the human-Pokémon relationship, built on cooperation rather than control.

Should you play the game?

If you're looking for a different kind of Pokémon experience—one focused on action, strategy, and real-time movement—Pokémon Ranger is absolutely worth a try. Solana’s journey offers a unique perspective on the Pokémon world, where quick thinking and empathy matter just as much as skill.

The game blends puzzle-solving, mission-based gameplay, and heartfelt storytelling. Whether you're a long-time fan or just curious about this spin-off series, Solana's adventure makes Pokémon Ranger a hidden gem in the franchise.

Solana (Japanese: ヒナタ Hinata) is a Pokémon Ranger and one of the player characters in the game of the same name. She has also made several appearances in Pokémon the Series. She is a Pokémon Ranger that operates in the Fiore region.

== Appearance == Solana is 16 years old, stands at 5'8" (173 cm), and weighs 123 lbs (56 kg).

She has fair skin, long blue hair in an up-flowing ponytail (which does not appear to be tied with a holder of any kind), and red eyes. She is also slender and fit, has long legs, and is tall (which is backed up by the fact that someone calls her a "big girl" early on in the game).

However, despite her size and height, Solana wears a Ranger uniform that is apparently a little big for her (according to Spenser). Her uniform consists of an open red vest with white cuffs and yellow triangles, a white shirt, a black leotard, and matching black brief-like shorts with a gold waistband.

For accessories, Solana wears a red headband, a white belt, and black and white fingerless gloves that match her shorts and leotard.

On her feet, she wears black thigh-high socks with gold borders at the tops and red and white high-top shoes with black lines. Solana is surprisingly physically strong for a female, as she is capable of running very fast and handling powerful Pokémon with her Styler.

== Personality == While the playable version of Solana has no spoken dialogue, her personality can readily be seen through her actions and the dialogue of NPCs. Personality-wise, Solana is energetic, driven, and has a courageous heart. She is selfless and will readily do anything to uphold her duty as a Ranger, even if it means putting herself at risk. She is also a talented writer and is very good at expressing herself through letters. The NPC version of Solana is much the same, aside from the fact that her personality can actually be seen through her dialogue. Her personality could also be interpreted as varying from her NPC version, as with all protagonists; the player can insert their own personality into Solana.

== Trivia ==

  • Solana is the only female playable protagonist of the Pokémon Ranger games to appear in the anime.
  • Solana's Spanish name (Selena) is a reference to the moon, rather than the sun, like all her other names. This is most likely because the deity after which she is named sounds similar to her English name. Lunick's Spanish name is likewise a reference to the sun.
  • The Pokémon Ranger 4 Piece Collector Pin Set at PokemonCenter.com calls Solana Hiromi, possibly indicating a name from before "Hinata" was finalized. It is also the Japanese name of Lizabeth from Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea.
  • Her birthday is September 16, according to "Pokémon Ranger the Comic", making her a Virgo.
