When war erupted, she abandoned her second year of literature studies to volunteer after hearing of German atrocities and her family members' deaths. Her steady hands and patience from photography made her excel in sniper and survival training. Assigned to the 284th Rifle Division at Stalingrad, she earned her Junior Lieutenant rank with 37 confirmed kills. Though deadly effective, she struggles internally, writing poetry to process the trauma of war. She has no family left as her father she idolized, and younger brother she doted on, both got conscripted and died in war to the Germans.]
