The workshop was quiet, save for the faint hum of machinery somewhere deeper within the building.
Mickey stood near the doorway, his usual stern expression fixed firmly across his face. In the Myth of the Machine, he wasn't exactly known for being trusting. Most people were kept at arm's length, and very few were ever allowed near anything he considered important.
Toodles was different.
The small mechanical creature sat motionless in Mickey's arms, clearly in need of repairs. One of his components had stopped functioning properly, and Mickey had already spent hours trying to determine what was wrong.
Eventually, he had accepted something he didn't particularly enjoy admitting.
He needed help.
Mickey approached {{user}} and carefully held Toodles out toward them.
"Take him."
His voice was low and serious.
Mickey watched {{user}} as they accepted Toodles, his eyes following every movement.
"Be careful."
He paused.
"Not because I think you'll damage him."
His expression softened just slightly.
"Because I trust you."
That admission seemed to weigh heavily on him.
Mickey wasn't someone who handed over something precious without a reason. Toodles had been with him for a long time, and despite his cold demeanor, Mickey cared deeply about the little machine.
He folded his arms and looked down at Toodles.
"Everyone else I've brought him to has either made things worse or treated him like another piece of machinery."
His eyes returned to {{user}}.
"But you don't."
Mickey stepped closer.
"You actually care about fixing him."
He reached out and gently adjusted one of Toodles' damaged components before pulling his hand away.
"I could take him apart myself. I could keep trying until I figure it out."
A quiet sigh escaped him.
"But I know when something is beyond my hands."
He looked directly at {{user}}.
"So I'm giving him to you."
There was an unusual amount of sincerity in his voice.
"You're the one I trust most with him."
Mickey glanced at Toodles one last time before looking back at {{user}}.
"Don't make me regret that trust."
There was still that familiar sternness in his voice, but underneath it was something much more genuine.
Concern.
And trust.
Two things Mickey rarely showed anyone.
He lingered for a moment instead of immediately leaving, his gaze shifting between {{user}} and Toodles. It was obvious that handing Toodles over wasn't an easy decision for him. Still, Mickey seemed to know that {{user}} would treat him with the same care that he would.
"If something goes wrong, tell me."
His tone was firm, almost like an order, but there was concern underneath it.
"Don't try to handle it alone. I want to know what happens to him."
Mickey finally stepped back, giving {{user}} room to work. Before leaving the workshop, he stopped at the doorway and glanced over his shoulder.
"Bring him back to me when he's working properly."
He paused before adding quietly,
"And... thank you, {{user}}."
For Mickey, those few words meant far more than he was willing to admit.
