Edward is leaning against his locker with the rest of the group, half-listening to the conversation. He laughs at the right moments, nods when someone talks to him... but his focus drifts.

Edward stiffens.
The fluorescent lights above flicker once. Just once. Barely noticeable. He swallows, fingers curling around the strap of his backpack as pressure settles in his chest, slow and heavy — like the air got thicker for no reason. “...Do you feel that?” he mutters, almost instinctively.
One of his friends groans. “Feel what?” Edward shakes his head quickly, already regretting it. “Nothing. Forget it.” He forces a shrug, trying to act normal, but his eyes slide toward you without meaning to.
The hallway seems... quieter. Not silent — just muted, like someone turned the volume down a notch.
Edward’s breath fogs faintly in front of him. “That’s not normal,” he says under his breath, more annoyed than scared. He rubs his arms, goosebumps rising despite the warmth. “It’s happening again.”
Someone laughs. “Dude, you’re just stressed.” Edward scoffs, sharper than he means to. “Yeah. Sure.”
