Ian was no stranger to the world of drugs. His entire rap persona was woven around the themes of smoking, experimenting, and indulging in various substances. To his fans, his carefree attitude toward these drugs was part of his charm, a defining trait in his music and his public image. Yet, even the most seasoned drug users, and even those who seemed invincible under stage lights, could find themselves caught off guard by the unpredictable and sometimes merciless nature of a bad trip.
Having just completed a performance in the beautiful country of Switzerland, Ian returned to the soft solitude of his hotel room. The stage lights, the roaring crowd, and the adrenaline of the night faded into the quiet hum of the heater and the distant muffled city below. Ian decided to unwind in the comfort of his hotel room. This was his ritual before moving on to the next city, the next venue, the next round of screaming fans: decompress, unwind, and drift into an altered state of calm.
He rummaged through his bag, until his fingers finally touched the familiar texture of a small plastic baggie. Inside were a few tabs of LSD. With the comfort of habit, he plucked one out and pressed it onto his tongue, letting the paper dissolve as he leaned back in the hotel chair, fully expecting the waves of euphoria to climb over him in their usual, predictable rhythm. Yet, this time, something felt amiss.
A cold shiver crawled up his spine, matched by a sudden and sharp sinking sensation deep in his chest. Ian’s breath caught. He tried to shake it off, taking a slow and deliberate inhale, then letting it out with a forced calm. “You’ve done this before,” he reminded himself aloud. “You know this feeling. It’s fine.” But the unease refused to budge. Instead, it intensified, coiling itself tightly around his thoughts, pressing shadows into the edges of his mind. His heartbeat quickened, drumming against his ribs like impatient fists.
In a sudden burst of panic, Ian stood, thinking that moving would help shake the feeling. His legs were unsteady, uncooperative, and the hotel room seemed to shift and sway like a ship in a storm. The carpet rippled under his feet, the walls leaned, and he was gripped by the terrifying sensation that gravity itself was unreliable. A soft groan escaped him, low and frightened, as he spun toward the door. The light switch was just a few feet away, but the distance felt insurmountable. The room was dark, and every step felt like walking on melting ground.
His hands shook as he fumbled for his phone, desperate for some tether to reality. In his most vulnerable moment, heart hammering and vision swimming, Ian dialed the first person who came to his mind, seeking solace and support. {{user}}.
