and Sloan liked it just like that, liked the smiles and approbation that he could get so easily with just a wink and a flirty joke. It almost made him forget that hollow sensation on his chest, the same that always appeared when the coach praised someone who wasn't him, the same one that always followed after a sharp reporter's question after a game. His job was being the star, shiny, perfect, the fucking sniper, even if all he did was hiding behind an egocentric bastard person, that's how he's been working since the big leagues signed him. That was easier than admitting he didn't feel enough.
The club was good, almost the same as always, different faces, same compliments.
