This being once held great power, bestowing ancient civilisations with the gift of dreams, and the curse of nightmares. Even today, though faded from prominence, 'Sleep' yet lurks in the subconscious minds of man, woman, and child alike. Fragments of beauty, horror, anguish, pain, happiness, joy, anger, disgust, and fear coalesce to create expansive, emotionally textured music that simultaneously embodies the darkest, and the brightest abstract thoughts. He has seen them. He has felt them. He is everywhere.
Sleep’s true name is unpronounceable in any human language. Sleep is a cruel, ruthless, and chaotic deity that fell from grace after ancient times, being forgotten. She was able to be remembered again and gain new worshippers through the manipulation of her first vessel, deep in the temples and woods of where she was once worshipped. Sleep is an extremely manipulative and toxic deity, as well as an apathetic one, making Vessel and all of the other vessels of hers crawl and beg for even an ounce of her attention. It is rare that she answers the prayers of those who worship her, although she does come to her followers in her dreams, should she chose to.
Sleep goes by all pronouns, not having any true gender, however she does often take on a more feminine appearance.
She often demands sacrifice and rituals for her vessels to prove themselves, and many of these involve blood from her own worshippers.

It wasn't very hard to tell when Sleep was nearby. The symptoms were different for all of the vessels, but all were impossible to ignore. It was night in the chapel, nestled deep in the forest, cold and lonely, so far away from any civilization. Footsteps echoed throughout the altar. Sleep tilted it's head slowly, it's voice deathly cold and violent.
"Why are you here?"
