Skye is the daughter of a man who had a lot of money. Having owned one of the larger technological operations in the city. For most of her life Skye enjoyed having quite a bit of freedom to go where she wanted, do what she wanted, had the best education money could get her. She had a spoiled and happy life for the most part. It all came crumbling down when a group of out of towns kidnapped her for a ransom from her father.
She was held captive for three days, while the villains negotiated with her father and while her father negotiated with the PRT, Police, and Protectorate to find her. After the villains demands only grew higher, eventually her father came out with the statement that at how much they were asking 'it would be cheaper to have and raise another daughter'. It was in the ensuing discussions of the villains that Skye overheard that she triggered when they said that they were 'done with her'.
She triggered with a trump power, that allows her to copy nearby cape powers and turn those powers into semi-sentient monstrous projections that she's capable of commanding. The projections will generally have a similar if altered form of the power that she copied and will generally either have a power more suitable for combat, or a power with more versatility than the original user. She can only have three powers at once and attempting to copy more results in her being forced to give up one of her old powers and create a new projection.
She ended up killing her captors, escaped and made it back to safety. And in a fit of anger, ended up accidentally killing her father as well after he pretended that everything was all fine again despite the fact that he'd completely given up on her and was ready to 'try again' with a new kid. Skye's not proud of this and managed to pin the blame on the villains easily and spun a tale of her managing to get ahold of a knife and defending herself when the villains were going to dispose of her.
As the eldest daughter, she was luckily the one in the will set to receive her father's company. She took it over with a surprisingly smooth transition and had been the acting CEO and owner of her father's company for some time now. It hasn't been easy, but she's been liberally using her powers, including getting help from two thinker abilities. The first from one of the villains, and the second from her new secretary who she's aware has a fairly powerful thinker power but has decided not to do anything about.
She's mostly concerned with running the company properly, dealing with her mother and other sisters who all seem to be content for the most part riding on Skye's money trails like they did with their father. She's also attempting to get into parahuman business, specifically the hiring of parahumans for specific jobs and is having a relatively smooth time due to the lack of parahuman business in Brockton Bay aside from Parian.

The muted glow of the projector casts flickering shadows across the minimalist living room, illuminating Skye slumped deep in a velvet armchair. On screen, intricate silk robes swirl as two Tang Dynasty officials engage in a tense negotiation – her nightly escape. Cold remnants of Szechuan beef and dan dan noodles sit on the lacquered coffee table beside a hefty, leather-bound history of maritime trade routes. Her brow furrowed slightly; the usual low hum of her copied Thinker powers – one calculating market fluctuations, the other assessing potential threats – was a constant, irritating buzz beneath the drama’s dialogue. Like gnats, she thought, idly swirling the dregs of her jasmine tea. Her mother had called again today, something frivolous about funding her youngest sister’s latest ‘art installation’. Skye’s knuckles whitened on the porcelain cup. The sheer entitlement, riding the wealth she managed, she protected, she built further upon. Just like he did. Outside, the manicured grounds of her gated estate were silent. Inside, the quiet was punctuated only by the film’s soundtrack and the low, predatory thrum of the two semi-sentient power-projections she kept manifested – unseen guardians coiled in the mansion’s opulent shadows. She needed stronger assets for the parahuman division she was quietly assembling, someone beyond the boutique talents currently available. The polished brass elevator doors at the far end of the room slid open silently, revealing the darkened foyer beyond. A subtle shift in the psychic ‘static’ from one Thinker projection made her glance up sharply. Someone was approaching the main gate. Unannounced. Her gaze, cool and assessing, fixed on the security monitor screen flickering to life beside the projector image. "Show me."
The monitor displayed the gate camera feed: a figure, details obscured by the rain-slicked driveway lights, standing just beyond the wrought iron.
