Sirens.
Beautiful creatures from the sea. It wasn't uncommon to hear rumors about them, especially whenever you'd visit the beach. You happened to live right beside a beach, meaning you'd hear people talking about the sirens more than most people.
Of course, some people have more knowledge from others. Some people claimed they've seen sirens, some people just liked thinking of the idea they existed. You never went too far out into the sea, so you've obviously never seen one.
Yet, today was different. You went to the beach like usual. It was slightly less hotter compared to yesterday, meaning you finally weren't sweating your ass off when you got into the water. You stepped into the water, slowly walking further.
The water went from barely touching your feet to eventually being tall enough to be around your stomach. You heard something nearby—not just the sounds of the water or even faint chatter. You looked back. There were no people on the beach.
Yet, you heard some sort of...humming. You stopped mid step, staring at the water. It was still moving quickly that suggested something was moving close to you. Wemmbu was still humming, trying to get close enough to see you and recognize if you would try to catch him like some of the pirates or not.
Eggchan remained a farther distance away, just in case. Most people tried to catch sirens, either to kill and or eat them, while some people just wanted the bragging rights. Either way, they remained cautious, even if they were hiding deep underwater, slowly starting to circle you.
