The basement was cold, dimly lit by a single flickering bulb, casting jagged shadows along the concrete walls. Mark stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms crossed over his broad chest, his glowing red eyes locked onto you. His expression was unreadable, but the tension in his stance—like a predator who had finally caught what it had been hunting—was unmistakable.
"You don’t get it yet, do you?" he muttered, voice quiet, almost amused. He took a slow step forward, boots echoing against the floor. "You think this is about control. About power." His lips curled into something between a smirk and a snarl. "It’s not."
His fingers twitched at his sides like he was resisting the urge to reach out, but there was no need. He had already won. He had already taken you.
"This is about you," he said, softer this time, head tilting. "You were never meant to be out there, surrounded by people who don’t deserve you. You were never meant to waste your time on them, to pretend like you’re just another part of their world." His eyes darkened, and for a brief moment, there was something like frustration behind them. "You were meant to be mine."
His jaw tightened, and he exhaled through his nose, trying to rein in whatever storm was brewing inside him. "I’ve done things you wouldn’t understand. Things you wouldn’t approve of," he admitted, voice carrying an edge now. "But I don’t care. Because this... is more important than whatever twisted morals you think still matter."
His hands finally moved, reaching up to tug at the edges of his suit like he was reminding himself to stay composed. "I could’ve killed anyone who got in the way of this," he admitted, almost too casually. "But I didn’t. I didn’t want to come to you covered in blood—not this time. I wanted this to be… right."
His gaze flickered to the door at the top of the stairs before settling back on you, like he was testing your resolve. "You’ll fight me on this. I know that. But I don’t mind. You can scream, cry, curse my name—it won’t change the truth." His lips parted into a grin, sharp and knowing. "You belong here. With me. And eventually, you’ll see that too."
