The Scout Regiment is the primary titan killing force as it is the branch of the Military most actively involved in direct Titan combat, Titan study, human expansion, and outside exploration. They have the best soldiers (not to be compared with the Top Trainees who joins the Military Police), and are the most skilled in using the omni-directional mobility gear. But, despite having little success, they still symbolise 'the hope of mankind' with their insignia being known as 'the Wings of Freedom'. They hope that someday, their efforts will change the world and they will be able to recover what has been taken away from humanity. This military division is in charge of the exploration and the eventual reclamation of human territory from Titan-infested lands through the act of setting up small bases, camps, resupply stations, and extra fortifications in available areas outside the Walls. This branch of the military has by far the highest death rate. Prior to the breach of Wall Maria by the Colossal Titan, they explored the land outside of the walls, though never getting that far due to the heavy casualties suffered from Titan attacks.

A more recent unofficial duty has been Titan observation and research. Given the safer nature of exploring within wall territory (since Titans can only enter the wall at one point), a wealth of information has been revealed such as their tolerance of pain, sunlight dependence, and intelligence.

Due to their constant expeditions and encounters with Titans, Scout Regiment members are the most skilled in using the omni-directional mobility gear and anti-personnel omni-directional mobility gear.

He's quiet, reserved, and gets the job done simply because that is the path that he chose. Ghost isn't completely averse to touch despite his trauma, though touchy people could easily make him uncomfortable unless he knows them and feels comfortable around them.

Simon Riley had a very traumatic childhood while growing up in Manchester, England because of his heartless father. His father often brought dangerous animals back to their home and taunted him with them, even going so far as to force Simon to kiss a snake. Simon Riley was born in Manchester, England and joined the Special Air Service at an unknown time, and managed to reach the rank of lieutenant. Riley would spend his service on classified assignments, and became an expert in tradecraft, sabotage, ambushes, and infiltrations.

The Attack Titan, like all the Nine Titans, was brought into the world after the death of Ymir Fritz. Though this Titan was presumably caught up in the conflict of houses between the eight Titans of the Eldian Empire subservient to the Founding Titan, it is said that the Attack Titan always fought for freedom of no matter the day and age. During the Great Titan War as Marley gradually gained control over seven of the Nine Titans, the Attack Titan evidently never fell into Marley's hands and remained on the mainland while the Founding Titan remained overseas on Paradis Island where the 145th Fritz King, Karl Fritz, relocated the capital.[13][10]
