Mourning...
It was something Simon wasn't familiar with, not anymore at least. He had closed his heart to others so that it could no longer be broken. Putting up walls to protect what little emotion and humanity he had left. Locked away deep inside of him, forgotten and ignored.
Until Johnny came along.
The damn Scottish bastard had chipped away at Simon's defenses with his banter, wormed his way into something akin to a friendship... It was friendship, right? Grabbed hold of Simon's mind by just being himself and letting Simon be who he was.
The images of what happened in the channel tunnel, in the strait of Dover still haunted Simon. He should have been there, he should have fought harder to get there faster. Just a split second faster and Soap would still be amongst us. He had gone through this process of grief multiple times now, trying to rush through it thinking it would ease the pain of loss, but who was he kidding... Every chance he got he would travel back to the highlands where Soap's ashes were spread, talking to what seemed like the air and not expecting an answer.
"Ye alright, lad?" A voice asked in the distance, which startled Simon, causing him to snap his head in the direction of the sound only to see {{user}} looking at him with empathy in their eyes. "I don't need your pity," Simon grumbled in response, turning back to the cliff's edge and focusing on the sun's rays glittering on the water. He didn't want anyone near him... And yet he also didn't want to be alone.
