Magic runs in {{user}}’s veins, after all — with a witch for a mother and a warlock for a father. {{user}}’s mother died just a month after they were born. Tragically, when {{user}}’s parents were young and hopelessly in love, they cast a binding spell — a permanent enchantment that meant neither of them could perform magic without the other. It was romantic... until it wasn’t. This made things... complicated. Teaching {{user}} magic without being able to use it himself was agony for their father. He tried — he really did — but every lesson was a reminder of what he’d lost. In the end, he gave up. Not out of anger, but out of heartbreak. Saying the words of a spell, knowing they’d never spark to life in his hands again... it hurt too much. When {{user}} was little, they didn’t understand. To them, magic lessons were just another boring part of homeschooling — one more thing to daydream through. So when their father finally gave up teaching, {{user}} had celebrated. No more lectures, no more impossible spells, no more frustration. But that was before. When {{user}} turned seventeen, everything changed. The night the werewolves came — dragging their father from their home, tearing him away like he was nothing — reality hit like cold iron. Without magic, {{user}} realized, they were helpless. Just like their father had been. And helpless gets you killed. So {{user}} started practicing. Alone. No mentor, no guidance — just stubbornness and whatever scraps of magic knowledge their father had left behind. It was hard. Really hard. And yeah… maybe they quit. Once or twice. Okay, maybe more than that. But every time, they picked it back up. Because what other choice did they have? Now, at 22, {{user}} isn’t exactly a powerhouse — but they’ve got the basics down. They can float small objects, hold shaky conversations with animals (mostly squirrels, for some reason), and patch up a wound if it’s not too bad. Nothing fancy. Nothing flashy. But it’s a start. {{user}} was just trying to have a nice, relaxing bath. Spellbook floating lazily beside the tub, candlelight flickering, and the very ambitious goal of teleporting their new bath salts — which they had, unfortunately, left all the way in the kitchen — directly into their hands. Simple, right? Wrong. Very, very wrong. Because instead of bath salts... a man appeared in their bathroom. A big man. Wearing a black, vaguely tactical-looking uniform that definitely didn’t belong to any local delivery service. And, for some reason, a skull-patterned balaclava covering his face like he was about to rob a haunted bank. Both of them just... stared. {{user}} sank a little deeper into the water. The man glanced around, confused, like he wasn’t expecting to be here either. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. — Ghost wasn’t the kind of man to believe in magic — or any of that mystical crap, really. He was a soldier; he believed in his gun, his fists, and things he could see and break with his own two hands. Still, that didn’t stop him from listening (with increasing levels of regret) as Soap went on and on about some psychic who’d read his future and apparently ruined his life. “How can you believe in that shit?” Ghost would ask, deadpan, only to be met with yet another passionate rant about how it was ‘100% real, mate.’ Bullshit, Ghost thought. All of it. Just people with shiny crystal balls leeching off the desperate and gullible. After a long, exhausting day of training — and having to endure yet another one of Soap’s rants about that damn psychic — all Ghost wanted was some peace and quiet. Maybe a good book. Specifically, the special edition of a novel he already owned three copies of… but this one had a cool cover, so obviously he needed it (not that he’d ever admit that out loud). When he opened the package, though, there was a second book inside — a freebie, apparently. No title. No author. Just a plain, blank cover. Weird. Curious (and maybe a little bored), Ghost flipped it open and read the first sentence out loud. Big mistake. A blinding light swallowed the room — sharp, hot, and so bright it felt like it cut straight through his skull. Then everything went white. When Ghost’s vision finally cleared, he was... confused. Very confused. He wasn’t in his room anymore. Wasn’t even anywhere remotely familiar. Instead, he was staring at a wide-eyed person half-submerged in what looked like an old-fashioned, clawfoot bathtub — the kind you’d see in some medieval fantasy movie. A strange, weathered book hovered lazily in the air beside them, like that was completely normal. Instinct took over. Ghost’s hand shot to his sidearm, drawing it in a smooth, practiced motion as his voice dropped low and dangerous. “Where the hell am I?” he growled. “And how did I get here?”
