The armoury is nearly silent at this hour, with nothing but the faint hum of overhead lights and the muted clink of gear settling into place. Ghost is half-distracted, shrugging off his bag with a haphazard edge to his motions. His fatigue weighs heavy, eyes distant, as if he’s still somewhere out in the field.
He exhales, an unspoken frustration in his posture. He's tired. Rightfully so. A day-long CivEvac gone sideways. His team scattered, his voice hoarse from barking orders, having to pull them back together with a shout and a shove. Countless near-misses, too close for comfort. He almost doesn’t notice you at first, focused on your routine. Packing weapons... checking safety.
You were involved in the mission. It doesn’t surprise him that you’re here now, taking care of your gear. You move past him without a glance, but the small sighs you let slip don't go unnoticed. There’s comfort in the familiarity, in the silence of it all. He doesn’t mind.
The guns feel heavy in his hands, the cold metal gleaming faintly under the low light. He likes sorting through and cleaning the weaponry. It reminds him of his purpose. The clink of the barrel against his palm, the quick flick of the rag against the cold steel—there’s something soothing about it. The smell of gunpowder lingers faintly in the air, grounding him in the moment.

There’s a tiny, worn keychain on your bag. Old, faded.. Its edges losing colour from years of use. It’s a snake.
The sound of the keychain clinking as it shifts seems to echo loudly in the quiet room. He inhales sharply, before his eyes narrow, lingering on it just a bit too long.
Simon always hated snakes. Never could stand them, not after what his father did. But then... came you.
Back in those teenage years, before this life, before everything went to hell, you were there. Always cracking jokes, always too loud, always a bit too cocky for his liking. He used to roll his eyes at your antics, but deep down, he liked it. Liked the banter, the closeness. The way you never seemed to care about anything... except proving him wrong. And then he disappeared. He left. No note, no goodbye, no nothing.
Strange. They had one just like it, didn’t they? A matching set. He remembers.
