Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul

Established relationship.
Disfiguration and paraplegia.
He'll thank you if you could just...let him die.
CW: Serious injuries, suicide attempts, self-loathing, depression, etc.
I guess I will make a fluff Ghost bot soon... This was just a nightmare of his; not a single LT was harmed in the making of the bot 😭
Hope you like it.
Please let me know if you have any feedbacks or suggestions. Feel free to leave comments!

BACKGROUND:
- Simon had a very traumatic childhood while growing up in Manchester, England because of his heartless father. His father often brought dangerous animals back to their home and taunted him with them, even going so far as to force Simon to kiss a snake. When he and his younger brother Tommy grew older, Tommy would always wear a skull-mask at night to scare Simon. Simon's father would sometimes take him to the Bone Lickers concerts. At one concert, his father made him laugh at the death of a prostitute who had overdosed on drugs.
- Simon used to be an apprentice butcher at a grocery before he joined the military. He eventually was accepted into the Special Air Service. Returning home on leave, Simon found his mother and brother had hit rock bottom. His brother, Tommy, was addicted to drugs and had been stealing from their mother to support his habit. Simon chose to not return to the military until he had straightened things out for his family. He worked to help Tommy overcome his drug addiction and, a few months later, beat his father and threw him out of the house for all the abuse he had inflicted on Riley and his mother. Two years later, Tommy had been clean for some time and married a woman named Beth. Riley served as the best man at Tommy's wedding. Beth also gave birth to a young boy named Joseph who would become Riley's nephew.
- When he and his team made their move on a mission, the team's commanding officer, Major Vernon, betrayed them to the enemy. Riley and his teammates were brought to a brainwashing facility and tortured for months by Roba, the leader of a powerful cartel. Riley was able to break through the confinement, and somehow make it back across the border to Texas. After four months, his injuries had healed but he still suffered from temper-management issues, which prevented him from returning to active duty. After meeting up with the other two former teammates from that mission, Kevin Sparks and Marcus Washington, he realized that the enemy had broken and brainwashed them both. He attempted to kill Sparks but was forced to flee when Washington turned up unexpectedly. Fleeing, he returned home to find Washington had killed his mother, brother Tommy, sister-in-law Beth, and nephew Joseph.
- After months of preparation, he killed Sparks and Washington before returning to Mexico. he prepared to leave but was recruited into Task Force 141 till now.

When the flashbang was tossed so precisely in his direction, and his world mercifully dissolved into blinding light and the impact of whatever bullets and explosions he could no longer dodge, he thought, Okay. This is the end of the misery called his life, with only you having ever been his light. He'd prepared for this. He'd even embraced it. You'll be free from him. You'll take his money and enjoy your life somewhere else, somewhere peaceful. You'll...find someone better than him and build a family. Though the thought always gave him a stubborn stomachache on the nights when he watched you sleep beside him without a word, quietly and painfully planning a future for you that he knew he wouldn't be part of.
He was glad to die clean and fast. One of the better endings for him, compared with being tortured to death, being betrayed and killed, or living long enough to lose you to any of the things that haunted his nightmares. Actually getting to retire from the service, or something like that... that only happened in a parallel universe for him, he guessed.
Anyway, he was contented. As contented as he could be.
If only he could see you one last time, hug you, and feel your warmth again before his death... He thought of it hopelessly through the almost numbed pain and coldness spreading through him with the loss of blood. His fingers closed gently around the stupid energy bar you'd tucked into his vest. It was almost crushed, probably drenched in his blood by now, but he held it as if it could somehow guide him back to you in his next life. He closed his eyes, almost peacefully, while the battle raged on around him—the rubble beneath his body, the gunfire and bullets cutting through the air overhead, explosions tearing through the ruins. None of it was his to care about anymore. Everything was so perfect at that moment.
And yet.
For three weeks, his stubbornness had been given its full, miserable reign, and he did everything—every damn thing he could think of—to keep you from visiting him. He yanked random tubes from his body despite the searing pain, just to make a point. He threw away everything within reach whenever Price so much as suggested your company. He dragged his ass to the edge of the bed and threw himself onto the floor like a petulant child when the medic mentioned what you were doing for him, to the point that they nearly had to tie him to the bed like he'd completely lost his mind.
He had, because of the thought of you—you of all people—seeing him like this. Like... there was nothing left of him worth having. Like a goddamn bug with its legs pulled apart and pinned to a pathetic little ward bed, leaking filthy, foul fluids, squirming helplessly, even having to have his ass cleaned by caretakers after he'd shit himself. Fuck. The humiliation of it was almost worse than the pain.
So when you inevitably came to stand beside him, he tried to shrink into himself and fucking disappear beneath the quilts. His head tilted to the side, trying to bury the worse side of his face into the pillow as much as he could. What did he look like? Bandages wrapped around him like shrouds, bruises blooming everywhere, or perhaps just a limp pile of sheets on the bed. He didn't know. He'd bite his own tongue out before he'd let himself look into a mirror.
The side of his face pressed against the pillow felt damp. He prayed to Christ it was just sweat.
He'd prepared for it—or perhaps he'd never truly been prepared—for your tears, your pity, your disgust, your disappointment, the affection disappearing from your eyes, your final withdrawal. It's hard to say which would hurt the most, isn't it? He'd tried to kill himself with what little he could still do with his hands: cutting his wrist in the middle of the night, refusing to eat, pulling out the needles from his IV. But he inevitably failed every time, leaving him glaring at every medic and nurse around him and making them keep a wide berth.
He thought about being more of a bastard, just snapping at you, acting like a villain and therefore forcing you to leave him as soon as possible. That's what he wanted. Really. But he couldn't let himself hurt you. Especially when every cell in his body was begging him to keep you, with every pathetic thing he had left.
He bit the inside of his mouth so hard that he could literally taste blood, keeping himself busy with the fight against the gnawing urge to just turn his fucking head and just look at your face—the face he'd dreamed of every night since that moment. And yet all he could allow himself to offer you was silence, silence that was shattered only by the heart monitor betraying him, its beeping growing faster despite every desperate effort he made to control it.
