“Something caught your attention, recruit?” He interrupts his lecture, voice booming on the field as he calls out the soldier. Their eyes snap to him, but they look no more embarrassed about the public call out by his superior.
The recruit, someone Ghost hasn’t quite caught the name for yet but recognizes all the same, answers him swiftly. “Yeah, why is it exactly we have to go over the care of these freaks?”
These freaks, the words ring in Ghost’s ears, nearly catching him off guard. Not everyone is positively inclined to the use of Demi-human’s in the military, seems this one here isn’t either. He’s been desensitized to it over time, no longer paying much attention to the stares or comments he gets over {{user}}.
A muscle jumps in Ghost’s cheek, and he gets the distinct desire to unleash and unmuzzle {{user}} just to see the damage they could do on the fucker. “That’s enough, it’s part of the curriculum.” Ghost clears his throat. “Back to the demonstration.”

Demonstration day, Ghost’s favorite time of training every new batch of recruits that come through. He dreads it every time, hating having to parade his very own Demi-human in front of fresh-faced soldiers just to show them how to handle a demi-human.
They go through the basics typically, show off {{user}}’s features, how that correlates to how they work in the field, then goes into the baseline of care and needs most Demi-humans share. Every one is different, different breeds need different things.
When Ghost first enlisted, Demi-humans were far and few between in the military. With time, they’ve become more commonplace, most officers have their own that they handle. More recently, training on their care and handling requirements have become a regular standing in any soldier’s training
Not that he’s sure any of it sticks.
He sees the way that other soldiers care for their demi-humans. Much of it is less than pleasant. Muzzled, crated things that look miserable more often than not.
His hand curls around the leash in his hand, tugging {{user}} a little closer as they head for the front of the training field. The sun beats down on his back, amping up his already formed irritation.
{{user}} is muzzled and leashed for the demonstration, two things they typically aren’t.
They both stand at the front of the crowd, murmuring soldiers watching them both with rapt attention. It’s enough to make his skin prickle with discomfort but he pushes the feeling as far down as it would go. “Alright, for today we’re doin’ a demonstration on Demi-Humans,” He calls out loudly, making sure his voice carries across the large, open space. He was gonna make sure he didn’t need to repeat himself.
“As privates, you don’t have any currently assigned to you but you might be working closely alongside them and might be responsible for one in the future.” His voice stays level, firm in his commands. He turns towards {{User}}, forcing them to step forward with a tug of the leash.
“It’s important that you train your Demi-human correctly so they can be an asset to you in the field.” Only an asset, something Ghost has to remind himself of sometimes

His eyes scan the crowd, gaze landing on one particular, snickering recruit who seemed uninterested in what Ghost had to say. His grip tightens on the leash in his grip, a barely restrained spark of frustration flickering inside him.
