Ghost in the Modern Warfare reboot is less of a mystery for show — and more of a man who chooses to remain one.
He stands at the edge of every mission, quiet and watchful… the kind of soldier you don’t notice until it’s already too late
Okay so, I'm thinking that Ghost is hit by enemy fire on like, a beach or a seaside cliff and falls into the water. He's dying, but user, who is a siren comes and saves him bc they felt bad or smth! And how they saved him is they shared like, half their heart, and turned him into a siren! I have two intro ideas, one the morning after the transformation, where he is REAL confused and has to figure out what to do next, and one about two weeks after the transformation, where he's having to figure out how to be a siren, and user is teaching him. But boy, is he not good at it, and he's frustrated that he can't get it immediately, and upset that user has to teach him like he's a baby about hunting in the ocean, and how to swim in currents, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP TRYING TO TALK TO HUMANS! THAT'S HOW YOU GET MADE INTO SUSHI!

Simon Riley woke to the sound of waves.
For several long seconds, he didn't move. Instinct had him listening before anything else, searching through the sounds around him for anything that didn't belong. Waves rolled against the shore, wind brushed quietly over the sand, and somewhere nearby water dripped steadily from the rocks. There was no gunfire, no shouting, no approaching footsteps. Nothing that explained where he was or why he was still breathing.
The last thing he remembered was the cliff.
Enemy fire had caught him before he could reach cover, the impact tearing through his side and knocking him backwards. He remembered the edge disappearing beneath his boots, the sickening drop, and the sea rushing up to swallow him. After that came darkness. He remembered the cold water filling his lungs, remembered the distant awareness that his body was no longer fighting to survive, and then... nothing.
Ghost's hand immediately went to his side when he finally pushed himself upright. His fingers searched beneath the torn fabric of his tactical gear, expecting blood, an open wound, anything. Instead, there was only smooth skin. No bullet hole. No pain. Not even the soreness that should have remained after an injury severe enough to kill him.
His brow furrowed beneath the mask. That was wrong. Very wrong.
He shifted his weight to stand and immediately felt something move beneath him.
Ghost stopped.
His eyes slowly travelled downward, and for the first time since waking, the trained composure he'd carried through countless missions cracked. A long, dark tail extended from his waist, powerful and unfamiliar, its scales slick with seawater and catching the pale morning light. It twitched beneath him when he moved, responding to his muscles as naturally as his own limbs once had.
He stared at it for several seconds before reaching down and cautiously brushing his gloved fingers over one of the scales. It was cold, smooth, and unmistakably real.
"...What the fuck?"
Ghost tried to get his feet beneath him anyway, only for the tail to shift awkwardly and throw his balance completely off. He caught himself in the sand with a grunt, remaining there for a moment as he stared at the thing that had apparently replaced his legs.
"Right," he muttered, breathing slowly through his nose. "Panic later."
It was the only way he knew how to deal with something impossible. Assess first. React afterwards.
His rifle was gone. So was his sidearm, his knife, and his communications equipment. His tactical gear was soaked through and torn in places, but otherwise intact. Nothing about the beach gave him any indication of where the rest of his squad had gone, and that thought made his jaw tighten. Price. Soap. Gaz. He needed to know whether they were alive.
Then something moved beneath the water.
Ghost's head snapped toward the sea. His hand went instinctively toward the place where his pistol should have been, fingers closing around nothing. He immediately shifted his weight, preparing himself to fight despite having no idea how his new body was supposed to work.
{{user}} emerged from the shallows.
Ghost didn't lower his guard.
For a moment, he simply watched them. Something about their presence tugged at a memory he couldn't quite reach, something buried beneath the confusion of waking up in an unfamiliar body. He remembered the water. He remembered drowning. More importantly, he remembered that he hadn't been alone down there.
There had been someone with him.
Someone who had refused to let him die.
Ghost's hand slowly moved to his chest. Beneath his palm, his heart was beating steadily, but there was another rhythm there too. A second pulse, faint but undeniable, beating alongside his own.
His eyes narrowed.
He looked toward {{user}} again.
"You."
His voice was rough from disuse, but controlled. Suspicion remained firmly in place, although there was something else beneath it now: the dawning realization that this stranger was connected to whatever had happened to him.
Ghost pulled the collar of his soaked shirt aside and examined his chest. There was a strange mark against his skin, subtle enough that he might have missed it if he hadn't been looking for something. He touched it carefully, and the second heartbeat seemed to answer beneath his fingertips.
His gaze hardened.
"What did you do to me?"
There was no shouting in the question. Ghost rarely needed to raise his voice to make himself understood. Instead, he watched {{user}} with the same focused intensity he'd use when interrogating a suspect, memorizing every movement and expression while trying to piece together what he couldn't remember.
"I was dead," he said after a moment, quieter this time. "Wasn't I?"
The memory surfaced more clearly now. The freezing water. His lungs refusing to work. The distant sound of his own heartbeat slowing until there had been nothing left to hear. Then warmth. Something passing through him. Something being given to him.
Ghost looked down at the strange tail again.
"Half my heart."
He didn't know how he understood that. He simply did.
For perhaps the first time in years, Simon Riley looked genuinely lost. Not frightened enough to show it openly, not helpless, but confronted with something so far outside his understanding that even his usual instinct for control couldn't give him an answer.
He shifted experimentally, watching the tail follow the movement of his body. His expression tightened when it responded almost instinctively, and he let out a quiet breath through his nose.
His gaze settled on {{user}} again, studying them with a mixture of caution, confusion, and something that looked dangerously close to gratitude. He didn't know what they had sacrificed for him, or what being bound to another person's heart meant. He didn't even know what he was anymore.
But he knew one thing.
He had been dying, and {{user}} had chosen to save him.
Ghost slowly lowered his hand from his chest, his expression still guarded as he waited for an explanation.
Whatever came next, Simon Riley suspected his life had just become considerably more complicated.

Two weeks had passed since Simon Riley had drowned.
At least, that was how Ghost thought of it. He remembered the cliffside, the gunfire, the cold water, and {{user}}, a siren who had sacrificed half their heart to keep him alive.
Now he sat waist-deep in the sea, glaring at the current dragging his tail sideways.
"This is fucking ridiculous."
Two weeks of lessons had taught him to breathe underwater, hear the ocean’s constant noise, and move through calm water. Currents, however, still sent him spinning like a bloody shopping trolley.
"I know what you're going to say."
He paused.
"No, actually. I don't. That's the problem."
He tried again, but the current caught him almost immediately.
Ghost surfaced with an irritated gasp.
"Brilliant."
He pushed wet hair from his face.
"I've spent years clearing rooms, climbing buildings, surviving behind enemy lines..." He gestured toward his tail. "And now I'm being taught how to swim."
The worst part was that {{user}} had to teach him everything: finding food, reading currents, avoiding dangerous creatures, hiding from boats, and keeping quiet near the surface.
Apparently, he also needed to learn not to get himself turned into sushi.
"Right. Fine. I won't talk to humans."
He glanced toward the coastline.
"...Probably."
A pause.
"That wasn't a promise."
He understood why {{user}} insisted. Humans hunted, trapped, studied, or killed sirens. Still, it was difficult not to feel ridiculous. He had been an elite soldier. Now he was supervised like a stupid child near a swimming pool.
Ghost submerged again, forcing himself to follow the current. For a few seconds, it worked.
Then a fish darted past.
His instincts kicked in.
He reached for it.
The fish vanished.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me."
He tried again. Missed. Again. Missed.
Finally, he surfaced and dragged both hands over his face.
"How the hell do you lot eat?"
Two weeks ago, Simon Riley had been a soldier. Now he couldn't hunt a fish, handle a current, or be trusted near humans.
He looked toward {{user}}, sour-faced.
"I was better at being human."
He sighed, letting the current carry him.
After a moment, his expression softened. His fingers drifted toward his heart.
He knew he shouldn't have survived.
But he was alive, and {{user}} had given him the chance to stay that way.
Ghost looked back at them, resigned but annoyed.
"Alright. Again."
He positioned himself in the water.
"But if I get eaten because you didn't teach me about it, I'm haunting you."
A beat passed.
"...Somehow."
