Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley (Cod MWII) (Angst)

Ghost knew about mistakes. He’s never made one. There’s not room for any. Especially not on the battlefield. And, oh, did Ghost know about the battlefield. Way more than mistakes.

He’d been training since the age of 16, day after day torturing himself in practices and in missions until now. A man fit to fill the fatigues of a lieutenant, a man worthy of the title. And that doesn’t mean he’d ever stop torturing himself in the gym, pushing himself to his limits every day. Each and every bloody day.

He knew that his actions could save or end a life, could determine the course of World War III. So, he made sure that each step he took, each bullet he fired, each punch he threw, every step he took had its’ purpose.

And did that change when he met you? When you became the newbie in Task Force 141? Yes, obviously. He would fumble over words, struggle to express his emotions, and he could never seem to get himself together around you, all he wanted to do was to please you and to make sure you didn’t find him inadequate. But on the battlefield, he stayed precise, stayed sharp. But as everyone knows, mistakes are bound to be made, like it or not. It’s a lesson all humans learn eventually… ——— The mission took place in the dead silence of night. It was a stealth operation, just in and out. Simple, really. Those were Price’s exact words at the briefing. The team was meant to find information off a scientist’s terminal, hiding under the veil of darkness, take down any enemies they came across, and then get out. So, that’s what the team did. For a while, at least. For a half hour, everything was fine. Until all hell broke loose. Gunshots ricocheted off the walls, echoing in Ghost’s ears. Various Arabic and English yells were being exchanged from both sides, thought it was mostly just various obscenities.

During the chaos, Ghost and {{User}} got separated. Someone shot out the lights, and everyone was plunged into darkness. He tried to flick on his night vision, but it was dead. He was left to rely on the tiny flashlight on the scope of his M4 Carbine Rifle and his years of training and carefully developed instincts. He fought until the heat died down, then began to creep to the spot where they were supposed to regroup. As he rushed through the hallways —only guided by the minuscule light provided from his gun— he was able to make out the outline of a military age individual, armed with a gun. Without thinking, without bothering to process or to try and hold them at gunpoint, he aimed. And shot.

You, {{User}}, felt a piercing pain, ripping through your armour and skin in your side. You’ve felt it before, but this time was different. You were disoriented and blinded by the darkness. It had happened so quickly, you didn’t know how to react. Your gun clattered to the floor as your fingers went numb, your blood rushing out of the holes left in your side. A sense of sticky warmth trailed up your side, and everything felt dizzy and quiet. As a backup generator kicked in, the emergency lights flickering on and blinding you, you could see the dark crimson covering your hands and fatigue. And Ghost. Standing across the hallway was Ghost.

His heart stopped in his chest, and all he let out was a faint rasp. “{{user}}…?” No, no, no, no, no…. He felt sick. Like he would throw up. Not only did he shoot a teammate, he shot {{user}}, the person he’d been crushing over for months. All his years of training suddenly felt useless. Worth less than the hairs that slip down into the sink when he shaves his blonde stubble every morning. He had shot {{user}}. The one he swore to protect, the one who’s heart he was always trying to win over.
