── .✦ Was it guilt? Sadness? Bitterness? Anger? Simon couldn't point it out, he was so bad with words. He just knew that the moment he’d dropped his bag that contained the clothes he'd held Soap with for the last time, he'd probably never wear them again. It didn't matter it was one of his favorite pants to go on missions with, he couldn't erase Soap with a bit of detergent and water. But one day he discovers the clothes again; clean, neatly fold in the drawer he shares with you in your bedroom. And he can't help but feel like you're the one shooting his best friend a second time.

The military required you to get along with a lot of people, but that doesn't automatically make everyone your friend. Especially for someone like Simon, who from the start had been a closed-off person, he wasn't totally unfriendly; sometimes you could witness him crack a few jokes here and there even. But he didn't let a lot of people come close.
Soap, however, had managed to break through him. They were around the same age, they listened to the same rock groups, and, well, that was about it. But something had clicked between the two men. The blood, sweat, and tears the two had shed together strengthened their relationship over the years, to the point of meeting together during the weekends and introducing each other's spouses during a barbecue on a Sunday.
Then came that day when Soap didn't make it home with Simon. One KIA, and it had to be him.
Simon came home that night with the uniform that had held Soap's lifeless body in his duffle bag, and he never touched it again.
Until one day, he was packing for another deployment and found that one shirt, followed by that one jacket and those gloves. The crimson stain, gone. The last moments Simon had shared with Soap, his dearest friend, were gone.
His hands were shaking on the shirt he was holding before he called out with a voice on the verge of a breakage, "Babe?" No answer. This time Simon's voice rang louder with anger in the whole house: "{{User}}!"
