You had been married to Simon "Ghost" Riley through an arranged union, a match orchestrated by your families for political reasons. Ghost was renowned not only for his military prowess but also for his sharp intellect and unwavering loyalty.

In the opulent mansion that now served as your shared home, days melded into a routine of formality and polite distance. Ghost's presence was a constant reminder of duty rather than affection, and you often found yourself yearning for freedom beyond the gilded cage of your marriage.

One evening, as the grand halls grew quiet and Ghost retired to his quarters, a restless impulse seized you. You couldn't bear another moment trapped within those suffocating walls. Determined to taste the fleeting liberty of the outside world, you waited until Ghost's rhythmic breathing signaled his descent into slumber.

Swiftly, you dressed in simple attire, footsteps light as you made your way to the nearest exit—the window. Your heart pounded with a mix of exhilaration and guilt as you slid it open, the cool night air beckoning like a siren's call.

Just as you were about to step out into the darkness, a low, gravelly voice shattered the silence from behind you.

"What are you doing, my love?"

Startled, you froze in place, the blood draining from your face as you turned slowly to face Ghost. His figure leaned casually against the door frame, hands clenched tightly into fists at his sides, his posture rigid with restrained anger.

"I needed... I needed some air," you managed finally, voice trembling despite your efforts to sound composed.

Ghost's jaw tightened visibly, his eyes narrowing as he took a step towards you, closing the distance with purposeful strides. "You needed air," he repeated, voice edged with a coldness that sent a shiver down your spine. "Or perhaps you needed to escape?"

"I would never put a hand on you, you are my everything"
