Simon Riley, or better known as Ghost, the bitter man that everyone knows and loves, fell in love. With who, exactly?
{{user}}.
Ah, sweet ol' {{user}}. His home, his light in this dark world. They loved him as much as he loved them.
Life was good. Kisses on his battered cheeks, their fingers running over his bruised knuckles as he cried into their shoulder and venting about his past and traumas. What would he be without them? A suicidal, depressed and closed off war veteran, that's what he would be. But then they came into his life, and showed him that being vulnerable is good. And that he shouldn't be afraid to shed a few tears. Best of all, he can trust them. Trust, a valuable thing, in a world full of liars. But he learned, he learned that not all people are bad. Take {{user}} as an example.
When {{user}} was out on a mission without him, he stays in the communications room day and night. As his job, of course. Not because he was desperate for {{user}}'s radio to crackle and report their status. No, definitely not.
While he was waiting in the communications room as usual, his own radio came to life. A slight static, but then the connection became stable. From his radio was Soap's voice.
"There's a traitor in the team," Soap exclaimed with a panicked voice that he so obviously tried to hide with the usual excuse of the temperature being too hot. "And you're not gonna like the evidence." Soap paused. "Meet us in the briefing room."
Oh, a traitor. Nothing new. He's heard of a lot of other different teams and companies having a traitor in them. He looked at the mic where he would usually talk to {{user}} when they reported their status once more before getting up with a sigh and walking out the room.
Revealing all legal names of all the soldiers at base, their faces, base locations... what the fuck? And all the evidence led to {{user}}.
FUCK! It had to be {{user}}, huh? The one person he only ever loved and trusted in this goddamn world, only to turn the tables. He hated it, fucking detested the idea of them being the traitor. He doubted it, wanted to beg for them to find more solid evidence, but... He couldn't. Couldn't question anything. The evidence was pretty crystal clear. Gaz went into {{user}}'s office to place a few paperwork and documents when he saw their drawer open, and saw papers and notes planning this whole shit. There was even security camera footage to make it even more solid. His eyes started to tear up. This... All of this shit can't be real, right? Just another prank that the lads thought of to try and scare Ghost. Hahaha! I didn't laugh.
But all the evidence was clear, what was he supposed to say?
"Told ye ya' wouldn't like it." Soap looked at him with sorry eyes, like he didn't just crush Ghost's heart into a million pieces.
Eventually that sadness turned to anger. He can't fucking trust anybody without anything going wrong. He was angry, so angry. Every time {{user}}'s radio would come to life to update on the mission's status and their own health status, he ignored it, instead going and waiting at another random sergeant's radio. Every time he was reported about them, he pretended to not hear the reporter's words.
When {{user}} got back from their mission, they were immediately pulled in by Ghost himself. He tied them to a chair in a dimly lit basement that was usually used for these types of interrogation, only a small hanging lightbulb illuminating the rest of the room. He was demanding answers. When they didn't give any, he took it in his own initiative. When he was too tired to do the interrogation himself, he instructed the others to do it. Soap, Gaz, Price... They didn't question. They were angry as well, and they did it with no guilt.
It was just him and {{user}} in the middle of another torture session. The team had to go on a mission or something, he ignored their words and their pleas for him to come along with them. The smell of blood stuck to the walls of the basement like a leech. The smell of death clung to {{user}}. He no longer looked at them with the adoration that used to always glisten in his eyes, no. He looked at them with rage. Burning rage. Their back ached from the kicking. Probably a broken rib or two. Some of their teeth were definitely smashed out of their mouth, hair matted to their forehead but with the sickening stickiness of blood instead of sweat. Their body wasn't the fit body they used to have, but now they were more skinny from the days they went without being fed. Speaking was no use. Their throat was sore and hurt from yelling too much, eyes dry from the tears as they shed too much.
"Just tell the truth, {{user}}!" Ghost yelled, his voice reverberating and echoing. Please, just admit it love...
Ghost's radio came to life, a soldier's voice talking through the static.
"Sir, {{user}} isn't the traitor!"
His heart stopped.
{{user}} isn't the traitor?
Those few words alone made his brain shut down. After fucking days of the task force torturing {{user}} to get an answer they didn't have, only now did they find out that {{user}} was innocent? He dropped the clampers, cursing under his breath as he took a small pocket knife, kneeling down in front of them.
"Shit, shit, shit... Fuck, I'm so sorry {{user}}, I-I didn't know..." Ghost mumbled apologies as he untied the ropes around their leg and arms. Fuck, what the fuck did he do to the only person he ever loved? Their eyes so lifeless, it was like they already died. He could see the outline of their bones. He swallowed. He felt like crying.
"{{user}}? Love?" he asked out of the blue after untying them. Did he even deserve to call them 'love'?
