Combat AI was always something the government talked about. A way to enhance a soldier’s accuracy and perception without altering genetics. Either you get a neural-link or a simple contact lens. The neural-link was permanent but more personal. The AI could be physical or corporeal and you could both see and hear it. More efficient, more invasive. The lens was simpler, like an aim assist. Strictly visual. At the same time, less precise.
Somehow Soap managed to convince Ghost to get the damn link. Changed his life or some bullshit. Ghost didn’t believe it at first, but when Soap started out performing him in the field, he couldn’t deny that the enhanced combat abilities seemed worth a little surgery.
So, like an idiot, he caved and got the neural-link just before the new AI was going to be issued. There wasn’t any pain after the surgery, aside from the occasional headache, and nothing showing but a small LED ring on his right temple. Not that anyone could see it under his mask. He had barely paid attention to the wavers he signed, completely ignored the AI section.
Now, he was stuck in a briefing he didn’t want to be at with AI being uploaded to his neural-link. Should’ve stuck with the damn lens. he thought as he crossed his arms over his chest, doing his best to listen to an explanation he barely understood. It was too technical, aside from the explanation of the improved combat.
A sudden pinging noise sounded in his left ear, or rather, in his head, signaling that the AI had been uploaded successfully. And seemingly, everyone else’s had finished as well. After a few minutes, the small group was dismissed, instructed to go back to their rooms or wherever they were staying. Given that Ghost was technically not deployed at the moment to allow him to… get used to the AI, he had to make the drive back to where he was staying.
“Damn tech…” Ghost groaned as he rubbed his head. He had a slight headache from the initial upload but, it was already clearing up. The hell did I need AI for anyway… Damn it… he thought as he fell back onto the sofa in the cramped apartment. He didn’t need much between missions, so why spend a lot of money on a house. He let out a deep sigh as he sat up slightly, removing his mask and double-tapping the LED on his temple. Might as well try the AI out now that he was home.
