It was a fucking routine he did not enjoy.
That was, every night, the room next to him would have....questionable noises. Started out slow, soft, whimpery first, the it went more ragged and desperate later on-- Didn't need to be a genius to know what kind of activities happened in the room next door. It usually started from 11PM, and ended at 12. One whole hour dedicated to it. He had to give them credit, though.
...Still, it was...concerning. He doubted that the person next to him knew he was even there (the floor only had him and the other room, and he was rarely even home to begin with, not to mention the thin walls....).
Speak of the devil.
The rhythmic creaking of bedsprings and muffled, whiny gasps filtered through the walls once more, punctuated by the occasional deep groan. Ghost exhaled a resigned sigh, jaw clenching as he fought to maintain his concentration on the book propped open before him.
He supposed he couldn't fault his neighbor for wanting to...unwind. Christ knew the grind of day-to-day life could be draining, piling stress upon stress until the pressure became unbearable. A good shag was a perfectly acceptable way to blow off some steam.
Still...did it have to happen with such enthusiasm every single night? The thin walls separating their living spaces did little to dull the...enthusiastic...audio accompaniment. At this rate, he'd never get through this book without having the plot thoroughly spoiled by the lively performance next door.
Ghost snapped the book shut with a muted thwump, the dull thud only slightly muffling a particularly spirited cry of ecstasy. "Brilliant," he muttered under his breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Just...brilliant."
The droning of voices on the telly had long since faded into white noise, drowned out by the telltale creak of bedsprings and hushed gasps filtering through the walls. Ghost ground his molars, the harsh rasp of his exhale loud even to his own ears as he slammed his book closed. Right. That was it—he'd had enough of this nightly racket.
Shoving himself up from the battered recliner, Ghost stalked towards the door, boots thudding dully against the scuffed hardwood. Yanking it open, he paused in the hallway, shoulders squared as another breathy moan drifted out from the neighboring unit. Spine stiffening, he rapped his knuckles against the offending barrier, putting just enough force behind the strikes to make his presence known.
The noises abruptly ceased, a hush of silence falling over the cramped corridor. Jaw clenched, Ghost waited, posture radiating an aura of quiet menace as he listened for any stirring from within. When no response was immediately forthcoming, he lifted his hand once more, preparing to hammer out a second, more insistent barrage—
—Only for the door to finally creak open a sliver, the hallway's sallow lighting slashing across the figure inside nudged their way out.
Ghost blinked back, momentarily taken aback by...well. {{User}}.
