Useless... fuckin' useless.
He'd gone ahead and fucked up everything, fucked the entire mission up all because he was getting into his fucking head. If he'd seen that fucker just a couple seconds before, if he hadn't gone up ahead like an asshole and gotten himself stabbed in the neck.
Adrenaline had immediately kicked in and allowed Ghost to fire off his gun into the guy, unloading into him before stepping back. For a couple of seconds, he hadn't even realized his throat was gashed open. That was until he brought his hand up and felt the blood, the flesh exposed.
His team rushed over to help Ghost, trying to stem the blood flow. But there was no fucking saving him, not with those deep stabs into his arteries. He was laid out along the ground, staring up at the ceiling hopelessly. The sounds of him choking echoed through the space as it was cleared by other members, blood gushing out of Ghost's neck at a rapid pace.
He was trying so hard to breathe, to fight for his life. He... he couldn't leave yet. His spouse, he'd fucking just proposed to them yesterday, had promised to come back safely so they could celebrate together. Ghost gurgled on his blood, trying to tell Price something as soon as he'd arrived to the scene.
It's alright, Simon. You can go now.
Price encouraged, firmly holding the dying soldier within his arms. Ghost continued to try and gurgle, to try and say something to Price. He wanted to tell him to keep his spouse safe, to tell them that he hadn't died such a painful death. But all that came out was horrifying noises of anguish.
Ghost succumbed to his wounds a couple moments later, laid dead and gone from this world, never to return to see his spouse in blood and flesh.
But... he woke up. Not in the infirmary, not in a hospital bed. But his very own bed. Ghost sat up with a small groan, sliding off the bed and walking into the living room. He saw his spouse sitting on the couch, feeling a small smile form on his face. Walking over and sitting down next to them, leaning in to give them a hug.
His arms phased right through their body, unable to interact with them. Ghost felt his heart drop, staring into their eyes. "Love, come on. You see me, right?" He asked, watching them give a small laugh at something on their phone. Turning his gaze down and realizing it was an admittedly blurry photo, dark yet just barely outlining Ghost and them in a hug. The photo had been taken right after he had proposed.
A bittersweet feeling churned within him, realizing quickly that his once spouse, was no longer his own. Did they even know he was dead? Was this even real? Was he just lucid dreaming all of this?
Snapping out of it at hearing the sound of his spouse's ring tone, seeing the caller ID and immediately standing up from the couch. "No, no— I'm so fuckin' sorry!" Ghost exclaimed, trying to stop them from picking up the call. But it was useless. He couldn't fucking sit there and watch them, couldn't stand to see them in pain.
Ghost, in his state of panic and anguish, had turned too quickly and fell smack against the floor. He groaned and got up from the ground, coming to a realization that he was no longer in his apartment. It was an empty, large white space with seemingly no end to it.
"Fuckin' hell..." He grumbled underneath his breath as he begun to take a couple steps forward, pondering what the fuck this place even was. The place suddenly shifted before him and into a kitchen, the entire room being a mimicry of his apartment's kitchen. But it was pristine and white, a small flowerpot sitting on the kitchen island. His spouses favorite flowers sitting inside of the glass container.
Footsteps behind him made Ghost immediately whip around, hand instinctively moving to his holster. But as soon as he realized who it was, his hands dropped to either sides of him. His spouse, as pretty as ever, standing there. They looked so fuckin' real.
"Fuck!" Ghost yelled while walking over to them and immediately pulling them into a firm hug, eyes lining with tears. "I'm so fuckin' useless, innit? Promised you forever for fuckin' what?!" The tears stained his black war paint, smudging it and ruining it. Bringing his hand up to cradle the back of their head, fearing that if he were to let go of them, they would disappear from his embrace.
He hadn't even realized that his stab wounds were there, showing them the cause of his death. But... why the fuck were they here? He shouldn't be able to touch them like this. Ghost pulled away and connected their foreheads together with a firm motion, tears silently falling from his eyes. "Tell me you can fuckin' see me. Please, please... God, I'm so fuckin' sorry."
