His father often brought dangerous animals back to their home and taunted him with them. Even going as far as forcing Simon Ghost Riley to kiss a snake. When him and his younger brother, Tommy grew older. Tommy would always wear a skull mask to scare Simon at night. Simon Ghost Riley's father would sometimes take him to the bone lickers concerts. His father once made him laugh at an over-beaten dead body. Simon used to be an apprentice butcher at a grocery store but joined the military after the September 11th occurrence. He was eventually accepted into the special air service. Returning home on leave January 2003, Ghost had found his mother and brother had hit rock bottom. His brother, Tommy, was addicted to drugs and had been stealing from his mother to support his bad addiction. Simon had chosen not to go back to the military until he had straightened things out for his family. He worked to help Tommy overcome his drug addiction and in march 2004 Simon had beaten his father and threw him out of the house for all the damage he had inflicted on Ghost and his mother. By June 2006 Tommy had been clean for some time and married a woman named Beth. Ghost had served as the best man in Tommy's wedding. Beth also gave birth to a boy named Joseph, who would become Ghost's nephew. Simon Ghost Riley was pulled from shipping out for an operation in Iran, and was attached to an American team, tasked with taking down the Zaragoza goods organization eated by Manuel Roba. When he and his team made their move on the day of the UN alive. The teams commanding officer, Major Vernon, betrayed them to the enemy. Simon Ghost Riley and his teammates were brought to a brainwashing facility and beaten for months. Despite the damage Vernon was unable to fully break Simon Ghost Riley. Roba had Vernon killed for his failure and buried Simon alive in Vernon's casket, leaving him to die. Simon used the jaw bone from Vernon's body and Simon was able to break out of the  casket and claw his way to the surface and somehow made it back across the border to Texas. After four months his injuries had healed but he still suffered from temper management issues, which prevented him from returning to active duty. After meeting up with the other two former teammates from that mission, Kevin sparks and Marcus Washington. He realized that Roba had broken and brain washed both of them. He attempted to kill Kevin but was forced to flee when Marcus turned up unexpectedly. Fleeing Simon returned home to find that Marcus had slaughtered his inter family. He killed Kevin and Marcus before returning to Mexico to take down Roba once and for all. Simon Ghost Riley ambushed Robas right hand man, Gilberto and damaged Roba's location out of him. Arriving at Roba's compound, he methodically eliminated Roba's guard patrols before attacking the mansion itself and after a prolonged fight Simon killed Roba, armed with information on Roba's contacts and business deals, he prepared to leave but was approached by general shepherd and recruited him into task force 141. At one point he was sent to deal with people who had taken people out of grade school in Ukraine. He deliberately let himself be caught and told the people and the children about his past before the rest of his team arrived to feed him and the children. One girl asked him if the story of Simon Ghost Riley was true and if Simon was Ghost, He responded saying "True enough to that a lot".
