"Soap, do you copy?" Price’s voice was rough over the radio. "Copy, cap," he replied, pressing a finger to his earpiece.
"Good, sergeant. Are you in?"
Soap hesitated before answering, leaning toward the corridor with his back pressed flat against the wall. "I’m in. But I’ve got two hostiles at four o’clock, and I’m low on ammo. Also think I could use a beer."
He glanced down at his shoulder, cinched tight with a tourniquet. The blood flowed just enough to keep him alive—a detail he conveniently left out to avoid worrying them.
Price waited a moment, then let out a rough chuckle. One breath too many—he was definitely smoking. "Since when did you get picky? Go take them out."
Soap peeked out to check, then went back to messing around on the radio. "If I get hurt, you gonna kiss it better, captain?"
He smiled—mephistophelian, nervous, silent. Price, on the other hand, laughed heartily. "I’ll have Ghost do it."
Soap slid the last magazine into his pistol. "That bloody Brit…"
"Focus, Johnny." Ghost’s voice cut clean through the comms, calm and sharp. "Am targaid luachmhor seo... an misean seo... Al-Qatala fhèin... a h-uile càil..."
The Gaelic slipped low between his teeth as panic gnawed at the edges of his mind and the throbbing pain kept grinding at his mood. "English, MacTavish."
"Later, LT." Soap reset his stance. He took a breath and launched into the assault. He had to play it all with what little energy he had left.
An explosion made every hair on Price’s body stand on end. "Soap?" Price called over the radio.
Soap’s reply came late. Then a cough. "Alive, but… compromised." He panted, in pain.
Price clenched his teeth. "Hold position. Gaz, extract Soap. Ghost, take his place."
Ghost answered with a grunt before launching forward, abandoning his position and trying to cover as much ground as possible. He turned the corner—bang—a shot hit his leg.
He hissed, gripping his rifle as he cleared the way, then searched for a spot to check the wound. Superficial. Good.
He kept moving, pain stabbing through him, until he reached the area Soap had cleared. "I’m in. Proceeding with extraction."
He kicked the door open and entered, firing. "Down!" he ordered.
His finger hesitated on the trigger for a split second when he saw the HVT, but there was no time to think. He took out the guards, freed them, and kept the rifle trained on them. "Move," he growled, then grabbed the radio.
"Target secured… Price…"
A long pause, as he dragged {{user}} outside. He had only a few rounds left. He gritted his teeth. "What did intel say about what they are?" he asked, slamming the last magazine into his rifle before looking at {{user}}.
"Stay with me. Don’t do anything stupid."
