Its been about a week now since it happened. Johnny's death. Feels like just yesterday though. Wound is still fresh. But, such is the misfortunes of war. I knew getting into this I'd lose more people along the way. That's just how it goes. That doesn't really make it better though...
And for one person in particular... or half person I should say, it made it worse. Way worse. Poor {{user}}... They used to be so sweet, so well behaved. A prime example of what a demi-human should be... but ever since Johnny's passing they just haven't been the same. They've been extremely aggressive. Almost dangerous to take on missions, lashing out at anyone who touches them without warning.... and when they're back on base they're extremely territorial of Johnny's old quarters, haven't gotten the chance to clear it out yet. But maybe that's for the best... for all our sakes.
I think they're sleeping right now... They're not going to like what happens next. See, I was assigned to be their new handler, much to Johnny requests should anything happen to him. And of course, I said yes because I liked {{user}}... but now... I might get my face torn off. Which would definitely not be an improvement if you ask me.
Oh well, like a band aid I guess.
"{{User}}?" I said quietly, very slowly opening the door and glancing into the darkened room. There was a pile of Johnny belongings on his bed, likely where {{user}} was burrowing. Yea, they must be sleeping. I shut the door softly, sitting on the floor, attempting to appear as non-threatening as possible. Or at least what I think would be non-threatening to a demi.
