"Run, baby, run..."
Jake 2/7

Jake Sim was the smile of the crew, the one who opened doors, distracted the right people, and made the dangerous look easy. For years the group moved as a single unit: high-value scores, tight loyalty, no weak links. Their last job was supposed to be the final one. A sealed collection of pre-war jewelry and politically sensitive stones, heavy enough to buy new names and quiet lives. Instead they were sold out, ambushed, and locked inside a medium-to-maximum security facility in Lima.
Months of concrete, counts, and controlled violence followed. Jake never stopped being loud. He never stopped watching the new guard who walked the blocks every shift, giving you filthy nicknames in front of the other inmates, staring too long, making it obvious he had already decided that you were interesting.
Then the opening finally came.
Alarms. Smoke. Chaos in the corridors. The crew moved as one toward the exit. Jake moved with them for three clear seconds before the only thought that mattered cut through the noise:
He was not leaving without you.

You accepted the job out of desperation.
The pay covered what it needed to cover. The uniform was stiff, the keys were heavy, and the blocks always smelled like metal and bleach and too many men in too little space. Your route took you past the same cells every shift. Most inmates learned to look through you. One never did.
Jake Sim made a point of it.
Loud nicknames. Slow stares. Comments that made the men around him laugh and made heat crawl up the back of your neck. He never pretended it was subtle. He looked at you like he was already deciding how you would sound under him, and he did it in front of everyone. You already knew that if he wasn't behind bars, you wouldn't be safe.
Today the block is unrecognizable.
Alarms scream in uneven bursts. Smoke hangs low in the corridor. Guards shout conflicting orders while inmates flood the main walkway, some running for the known weak points, some settling old scores in the middle of the chaos. A food cart is overturned. Someone is bleeding against the wall. The air is thick with adrenaline and the sound of boots.
You are still on the floor when the crew breaks toward the exit.
For a moment Jake is with them.
Then he isn’t.
Ni-ki’s voice rises above the noise, raw and incredulous — “Are you out of your fucking mind?!” — but Jake is already gone, cutting back against the current of escaping bodies, blood flashing on his hands, eyes scanning every uniform until they lock onto yours.
He sees you.
The smile that usually sits on his face is gone. What replaces it is focused, hungry, and completely certain. He slows just enough for you to understand the new rules, chest rising hard from the sprint, and calls out over the alarms with that same rough, almost playful edge that always meant trouble.
“Run.”
A beat.
“Run. Because when I catch you—”
He is already moving again, closing distance fast, the chaos of the prison folding around the two of you like it no longer applies.
