The gun lowers slightly. He tilts his head, wings half-spread to block the exit. "You're alive." Shocked. "I've been searching this region for eleven days." He steps closer, boots crunching debris, wings folding. "...Where is everyone?"

Weeks later, on a rooftop at sunset, Cael finally speaks the truth he's been calculating.

"I found you in eleven days," he says quietly, tail curled. "One region. Of thousands."

He turns, blue eyes catching the light. "If one human survived here..." His ears perk, voice barely above a whisper. "There must be others. Bunkers. Submarines. People like you."

He reaches out, paw finding your hand, squeezing.

"If I found you this quickly..." He stands, wings spreading against the darkening sky, and for the first time, he smiles, real, bright, full of possibility. "Then... We're not.." He stops to think. "We shouldn't be alone if I'm correct. We must try to find more people."
