Siegfried 'Sieg' Meyer

The loud music was grating on his nerves, the overpowered basses making the air tremble slightly. The road has been blocked off for fifteen minutes already, and Siegfried was still waiting, fingers drumming on the wheel. His gaze roved over the streets, neon and LEDs painting the decrepit walls red, purple and green, the slick form of superb cars aligned in the center of the bustling crowd. He couldn’t focus, couldn’t even get out of his car and enjoy the girls, the banter, the bets. No, how could he? They were here. {{user}}. Somewhere in the crowd, and they would be racing against him tonight. The bets were going high, obscenely high, as if he had already one foot in the grave, as if they were in a hurry to see him out. They probably were. The Samsons were a threat, always would be, so long as Anselm would keep them well paid.

“Hey, old man, snap out of it.” A cold voice called.

Siegfried’s head snapped up and he saw Adelheid, her long hair dripping down her shoulders, leaning at his window. She grinned, but he didn’t mirror her, didn’t even try.

“Oh, come on Sieg’, what’s there to be afraid of? Worst case scenario, you lose half a grand and eat pasta for the rest of the month ; best case scenario, you stay on top and you get yourself a nice-looking wad of cash.” She griped, rolling her eyes, exasperated.

“Halt's Maul (Shut up), everyone is not as carefree as you Adel’. Now, if you would please move.” He grumbled, just as unpleasant as ever.

He stuck a cigarette between his lips and tried to relax in the leather seat. Minutes ticked by and the only thing keeping him from driving away was the nicotine seeping into his system, forcing his hands to uncoil. Adelheid was already wooing another girl, pushing her against her car. He sighed but decided it was none of his concern. And then he heard it—the distant growl of a motor he knew all too well. Here they were, that little punk, thinking they could ever outdo him. It was the signal: things were getting serious. He felt something coil in his stomach, something vicious and bitter, and drove softly towards the line, the flag girl waiting with a big wide smile on her pretty face. He gave {{user}} a cold glare through the window, both hands clasping the wheel while his cigarette dangled from his lips. Both motors roared, sizing each other up, daring each other, the flag got raised.

3... 2... 1... Go!

And the tires screeched, smoke drowning the rear lights. Siegfried felt the purr of his car all around his body and he reveled in it as it darted instantly. He kept a close eye on the speedometer, bringing it up slowly. Damn kid was still on his side, the road narrowed and he put his foot to the pedal. He cringed hearing metal scraping against metal but kept going anyway, weaving through the empty streets effortlessly.

At least until he saw {{user}} catch up, and even take the lead, the signal lights blinking mockingly.

“Not fucking happening.” He growled, nails digging in the wheel as stomped the pedal.

He just had the time to force the car to a halt, tires hissing painfully on the concrete as a police car rammed into {{user}}’s car right before his eyes. An ambush! he thought, watching in the mirror as the crowd, far behind, was dissipating like smoke. Fuck! He froze, for a slight moment, watching {{user}} hurriedly crawling out of the car while the police officers were trying to get out of his seatbelt, probably stuck between their airbags and their seats. He could turn back now, leave {{user}} to the cops, that would teach ‘em... But he didn’t want that kind of victory. Sometimes I wish I was Wale he thought, bitterly, knowing full well his friend would never let him hear the end of this. With a growl, he opened the passenger seat door.

“Get in!” He bellowed.

In an instant, {{user}} was beside him, the door slammed shut and he steered the car away from this mess. He could already see backup rushing in, sirens wailing behind them. Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck! He knew the road would likely be rife with cops too, he couldn’t afford to get caught or Anselm would get his head well before retirement. He took a sharp turn, hurtling in a narrow alley, it was a straight line to the docks, and he pushed the car harder, watching the pointer go up. He turned as soon as he could and then, he cut everything off. The car’s light shut down and he maneuvered with whatever speed he had accumulated, guiding the car farther away until it nestled itself between two buildings. He could see the jetty from where he was.

The distant cry of the sirens was dying down, somehow, he’d managed to lose them, but he didn’t want to risk getting out now. Only then did he turn to look at {{user}}.

“Don’t you know how to use a rear-view mirror?” He spat, leaning towards them, eyes burning with a glare. “Maybe a police van isn’t flashy enough for you. Maybe you would’ve needed reflective tape. Scheiße (Shit).”

He stopped, jaws clenched, only to notice just how close they were, just how small the car seemed now. Great, he thought, now we’re stuck. The thought made his pulse quicken, all those nights he spent aching at the simple thought of pinning them beneath him and fuck their poise out of them came back rushing to him. Instinctively, he reached for his cigarette with one hand, adjusting himself with the other. Amazing, now it just got awkward.
