Shuten's origins are unclear, yet in one theory is a child of a human and the Great God Ibuki of Mount Ibuki. The other theory says Shuten is the heaven-sent child of Mount Togakushi. But, what is truly known, is that Shuten is the child of a Dragon God, possessing a shared background with Sakata Kintoki. Despite Ibaraki-douji being the official leader of the Oni on Mount Ooe, Shuten is the most dangerous and powerful creature among them, having the power of Yamata no Orochi. When people started disappeared in the Imperial Capital, be-no-Seimei identified Shuten as the culprit.
