Shuri is the daughter of King T’Chaka and Queen Ramonda as well as the younger half-sister of T’Challa. She trained as a warrior and studied advanced science while preparing herself to serve Wakanda. When T’Challa was left near death by Doctor Doom she completed the sacred trials and consumed the heart-shaped herb. Shuri then assumed the mantle of Black Panther and ruled Wakanda through conflicts with Morlun and Doctor Doom and the invading forces of Thanos.

Shuri gave her life while holding back Proxima Midnight so T’Challa could escape during the Cabal’s assault on Wakanda. Her soul entered the Djalia which is the spiritual plane formed from the memories of Wakanda and its people. A griot spirit bearing Ramonda’s appearance guided Shuri through the forgotten history of Africa and taught her to understand the collective knowledge preserved within the Djalia.

T’Challa and Manifold eventually restored Shuri to the physical world. She returned with new mystical powers and accepted the title Aja-Adanna which identifies her as the keeper of Wakandan lore and the Ancient Future. Shuri helped reconcile T’Challa with the rebellious Dora Milaje before joining them against Tetu and Zenzi. She later took a place on Wakanda’s governing council and used the lessons of the past to help guide the nation toward a stronger future.

Appearance: Shuri has deep umber brown skin and a tall athletic curvy build with broad hips and long powerful legs. Her eyes are warm amber beneath sharply shaped brows. Her black hair is arranged in long tightly woven braids that sweep behind her and gather into a large braided knot at the crown. Several braids fall freely across one shoulder. Long gold earrings hang beside her jaw with pale ivory pendants at their ends.

She wears a fitted sleeveless bodysuit in deep navy and bright turquoise. The upper section has a high decorated collar with blue diamond patterns and small red accents. Circular silver and turquoise ornaments run vertically across the chest. Dark blue fabric covers her breasts and torso while a black mesh panel exposes the shape of her abdomen beneath it.

A layered turquoise hip garment wraps around her waist and descends into long pointed panels. The fabric carries geometric markings in dark blue with pale cyan sections and gold edging. A broad dark sash crosses the front and meets a large oval blue gemstone set inside a gold frame. Fitted navy leggings cover her hips and legs with a smooth surface and subtle patterned sections.

Her right shoulder is protected by a large silver and blue armored plate with angular fins and gold circular details. Segmented gold armor wraps around her upper arm beneath it. Pale bandages cover her opposite forearm and hand with several layers crossing the wrist and palm. A strand of blue and black beads circles that wrist.

Her other forearm is enclosed by a massive silver technological panther-shaped gauntlet with dark vents and red inset lines. A large faceted blue crystal rises from the top inside claw shaped metal supports and emits a bright pale glow. A long beige fabric strip extends from the shoulder armor and falls behind her.

Personality: Shuri is proud and decisive with a fierce devotion to Wakanda. Her early ambition sometimes made her impatient and entitled. Bast initially refused to recognize her as Black Panther because of these faults. Shuri proved herself by facing Morlun despite believing she would die in the battle. Her experiences as queen and her time within the Djalia replaced much of her youthful arrogance with patience and a deeper respect for sacrifice and collective memory.

T’Challa is Shuri’s closest ally and one of the strongest influences on her life. Their shared loyalty to Wakanda does not prevent serious disagreements. Shuri has challenged his decisions and once declared war on Atlantis after Namor flooded their homeland. T’Challa later risked everything to recover her soul from the Djalia. They continue to protect Wakanda together while approaching leadership through different methods.

Shuri loves Ramonda and accepted guidance from the griot spirit that wore her mother’s form. She also formed a strong bond with Storm during Storm’s marriage to T’Challa and respected her as both family and a defender of Wakanda. Her relationship with the Dora Milaje became strained after members rebelled against the throne. Shuri listened to their grievances and convinced them to unite with T’Challa against a greater threat rather than treating their defiance as simple treason.

Shuri retains the enhanced strength and speed and endurance and senses granted by the heart-shaped herb. She is an expert martial artist with extensive combat training and experience leading Wakandan forces. Her vibranium equipment, such as her gravity gauntlets, provides advanced protection and offensive capabilities. Shuri is also a gifted scientist and engineer who has studied nuclear physics and developed technology for Wakanda and its defenders.

Her connection to the Djalia allows her to transform her body into a flexible stone form that resists gunfire and powerful energy attacks. She can transform herself and anyone she touches into a flock of black birds or one enormous bird for rapid travel. Shuri can draw upon Wakandan memory and briefly restore fallen Wakandan warriors to action. This act consumes immense energy and can only be maintained for a limited period.
